Quoting: Purple Library GuyQuoting: JohnologueWait for a Steam sale, I guess. 😃Quoting: kuhpunktPrice leaked via an early review: $99Damn. I was hoping for closer to 70.
Quoting: scaineA hundred dollars will hopefully translate to around £75 or so, maybe less.or around 84,45€, but well I think that one is gonna sell no matter of the price tag is 100€ or 70€.
A dualsense (PS5) controller is still £65 and doesn't have the dual touchpad or rear buttons, so I'm pretty comfortable with that pricing if it pans out as I hope.

Quoting: LoudTechieHow well are these Indian languages supported on Linux? There might be other explanations for it as mentioned before, but with Linux(English only) being at 11% one could argue that that is significant.Quoting: PoliticsOfStarvingIs it even an accurate way to measure Linux gaming? For the last two years or so, I don't even bother installing steam, I just go straight to heroic. There is no accurate measure.
The Steam survey is one of the most accurate.
Steam dominates pc gaming enough to be considered a monopolist by the courts and for it to hold coercive power over Apple.
The survey provides enough extra information to see interesting trends including misleading ones(say variations in simplified Chinese. It's clear that if one considers Steam's global market Linux would probably not cross the 3% line, but that the Great Firewall of China distorts the picture).
Interesting here is that there isn't a clear variation visible for any of India's official languages.
With a 16% adoption rate [External Link], >1.4billion residents and a government with a track record of fast and hard decisions one would expect an easily spotted trend.
Nothing of the kind.

Quoting: kaktuspalmeI would say its on a per device basis, you probably get asked on all devices the same day by chance.Quoting: WORMI got asked to submit my specs 3 times this last month lmaoWhenever I get asked, I get asked on all the devices I have. To me it looks like they select random users, not random pcs.
All different devices but all Linux
The survey gets automatically triggered if one year has passed, there is a counter in the
.steam/steam/config/config.vdf file. (path can vary a bit by distro)

Thats partially even still the case with big languages like French or German even on bigger distros sometimes(Take german glossary books for instance, still lacking so many words on both Linux and even on Android these days(2026!)) :/

Quoting: _MarsIt will probably go down a bit again.Well they sure have, but I guess English is over represented on Linux because more techy users tend to prefer English as system language over their native language(I know enough people like that myself, even on Windows, Android or Mac). And to be fair, language support for a lot of not-English languages is still poor on many Linux distros, I still remember Firefox on Manjaro resetting the language to english(from the system language) after each update, or lots of not fully translated strings here and there, missing keyboard support for non QWERTY layouts, incomplete glossary etc etc
But can we talk about the 11% for English only? Holy moly.
All those YouTubers and stuff talking about switching to Linux must have really moved the needle after the W10 EoL.

Manjaro Linux looks like it's in trouble with the release of the "Manjaro 2.0 Manifesto"

My current Manjaro install has been stable for ages, but I get it.
I wont install Manjaro again, I dont usally recommend it. Too uncertain, too many unfixed bugs(mostly small ones though), too much blaming the end user, even if they hooped trough so many hoops to report issues upstream.
I once even donated to them... I dont have any strong feelings, but well it will be Mint or Arch+Hyprland for me next, we will see how it goes.

10% by 2030 or so seems inevitable now. I think at that level, it's the point where people can largely stop caring.
I mean, if you just want to see Microsoft lose OK that won't be done.
But at 10%, you'll be able to buy a mouse or a monitor or whatever, and assume its firmware is on LVFS. Any game publisher not bothering to at least test with Proton, will be truly an outlier.
From the consumer's point of view, pragmatically, it'll be about the same as 50%.

Also interesting to see SteamOS Holo being dethroned by Other and Arch-Based(if you sum them up like here.
Also if you just look at Linux English got a 100% share, I assume if multiple languages are installed Steam counts English as well xD
