Steam Next Fest 2024 was the biggest for Valve and game devs yet

Quoting: SchattenspiegelGreat to see Demo culture getting a comeback
For the first time, I had tried out a lot of demos in this Next Fest and it was great! It really remembered me on my early childhood days in which I tried demos on PS2. That was great days back then.

And also the Steam Next Fest February 2024 was really nice, can't await the Next Fest in June 2024

Steam Next Fest returns with more demos and livestreams

I tried 39 games from the Next Fest (February 2024) and all games, which I tested works fine on Linux and also on my Steam Deck.

Some of my favorites:
- Pacific Drive
- Rotwood
- Synergy
- Ultros (just released yesterday)
- Grippy Golf
- Biomorph
- Nevergrave
- Backpack Battles
- #Drive Rally

After I ignored all prior Steam Next Fests in the past, this time I enjoyed that until the last second and it remembered me on my early childhood days, on which I played demo games from DVD-ROMs on the PS2.

I even keep my main PC and my Steam Deck offline to still enjoy the game demos.

Ubisoft think gamers need to get comfortable with not owning games

It feels like Ubisoft is one of the most greedy game companies there.

Even so greedy that they don't release their games on Steam, only on Epic and on their own crappy launcher.

And they saying that we should be comfortable with not owning games? Oh yes, without their games because they are overpriced and crappy as well.

If I buy games, then I'll do that on Steam – GOG and itch are also great options, but Steam is the best store for Linux/Steam Deck

On Steam and itch, I have the most games in my whole library

So what the heck is an 'indie game' nowadays anyway?

My opinion is: every game, that's not developed/published by AAA studios or games that's slightly different from the usual AAA gameplay/style are indie in my sense.

There are AAA-like games, that can be called indie, because it's not from a AAA studio/dev

And there are indie-like games from the big players, that couldn't be called indie, because they was developed by an AAA studio

So, if a game is from EA, Ubi, Activision/Blizzard etc., it's AAA regardless of gameplay, style or other attributes.

Games, that are not from the above mentioned devs are considered indie in my sense regardless of style or gameplay.

But there are devs like Larian (BG3) or Valve (CS/HL), that i can't clearly put into AAA or indie section because they are something special and difficult to differentiate.

Happy Birthday GOL. Thanks to GOL, i entered Linux gaming faster as i thought.
i discovered Linux in 2011 and GOL in 2019, but i fully switched to Linux in 2020.

and also through GOL, i discovered hundreds of great Linux games, Steam Deck verified games and hidden gems for Linux/Steam Deck, that i probably had never discovered on other gaming sites.

Thank you so much for that :D
