On one hand it's silly to expect Steam to pay royalties for copyrighted material in products that are sold through their store. Especially considering the fact that publishers remove games when the licenses expire (e.g. Project Cars 2).
On the other hand, it would be neat if Steam paying the royalties meant that products containing copyrighted material could be sold through Steam as long as the royalties are paid; DDR/Audiosurf/GH clones could ship with a ton of songs, for example. Anyone could make a Harry Potter/Song of Ice and Fire/Lord of the Rings game.
Of course PRS will try to have their cake AND eat it, but that probably won't happen.

At the tail end of 2025 I switched from Arch with Cachy repos to OpenSUSE because I wanted SELinux and Cachy doesn't support it. It was perfectly fine aside from that, though I ran the Zen kernel instead of the Cachy kernel so I don't know whether that makes any difference.

Quoting: WORMThat'll teach me for skimming. Anyway, good luck finding 390 TB storage lying around, last I heard orders are backstopped 'till 2029.Quoting: tmtvlHow big is Myrient in total? I could maybe spare a couple hundred gigs of storage but I suspect that'd be far too little (and I couldn't distribute anything before its copyright expires anyway).over 390 terabytes according to this article: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/02/the-video-game-preservation-service-myrient-is-shutting-down-in-march/

Quoting: rea987Someone must backup this site. Surely some of the games they will cease to provide will be lost forever. How big is Myrient in total? I presume that those AI chatbots all run locally on my PC without needing any connection to a company I don't trust? Would be quite unfortunate if I had some spyware running while I was, as a completely random example, doing some online banking.

Quoting: CaldathrasYou'd think that GOG, in the interests of game preservation, would want the original version too, not just the "slightly upgraded" version.I'm sure they do want it, but if Squeenix says 'nah', there's not much they can do.

Let's see, some recommendations...
For FPS enjoyers, there's the GZDoom game Hedon Bloodrite [External Link]. Most fun I've had with a FPS since First Encounter Assault Recon ('Fear').
For those who like their action turn-based, there's House of Necrosis [External Link], a bit like if Silent Hill 1 had a baby with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
For those looking for something more chill and cosy, there's Lake [External Link]. Be a computer-related professional who takes a 2 week sabbatical to deliver mail in her hometown.
And finally, my most anticipated game since Pillars of Eternity, the retro platformer Double Shake [External Link].

Eh, I'd be happier just switching to DP. The 7600 I've got now has 3 DPs and 1 HDMI so I have to use DP anyway.
