Half-Life 2 and the episodes get updated and HL2 now Steam Deck Verified

Quoting: CatKillerAlso of interest is that HL2 gets the recommended_runtime: native attribute, unlike Portal 2 (currently).
Where can I look up such information?

The lookup page seems to have gotten an upgrade: Date of last change, and last state as tooltip.
And you can lookup your wish list as well. (It might mark unreleased games though. :D )

Where would I look up what's Steam's favorite way to run a game, like Proton (with version?) or native?

Quoting: MohandevirAs for the other 1/4, most will dualboot and a small minority will replace SteamOS with Windows. I have even witnessed a Windows fanboy starting to change it's point of view and then having doubts about stripping SteamOS.

Like I said, gut feeling from reactions I read/see, but it feels positive.

Valve seem to have really nailed it, this time.

Good job!
Sounds good, thanks for telling.
I'm surprised people are thinking about dual booting though.
Did they tell why they would want to keep a Linux partition when they are doing the work of installing Windows?

Quoting: scaineProbably because... why would anyone turn the steam overlay off, unless its known to cause problems (about 2 games in my 1000+ library)?
I used to turn it off because I didn't want any popups (like achievements) for better immersion.

[citation needed]

Note that there are 9,612 [External Link] native games on Steam today, so you need to show that at least 4,807 of them work better through Proton on all hardware.
I think he meant the native ports. And he is right there. I have had better experience with a number of games using Proton than using the native port.
... and so does CatKiller. If you say "most" of the native ported games work better on Proton, you at least need to have tested with a majority of them.

So. Here's Valve, trying to break the cycle. [...]
It seems that Microsoft is also trying to break the cycle, seeing the increasing number of people being p*ssed off by Windows 11 (like I was with Windows 10)
Ah, so this is what they wanted to say...! :D

: What do you think about the Steam Deck?

“I'm still waiting to get my hands on a devkit, but from what I've gathered it is running LINUX, so that means all the ports, we've done for the Nintendo Switch (Unavowed, Primordia) will be easily portable to it.
I wonder what he means by that exactly. Is he saying at an OS level they are similar (I don't know what the Switch's OS is based off of) or maybe the various APIs are similar/the same like how Vulkan is available on the Switch or maybe other reasons?
I'd guess the combined experience of putting to Linux as well as to a handheld will help a lot.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyFor me, while I get their point, I think it's shortsighted.
My point (well, in an other thread) is a different one:
Yes, Proton is the crutch that makes Linux gaming walk.
Until now, I don't see it helped native Linux gaming,
but it might - or might not - later on.
But either way, it's still a crutch.
I won't take it 's The Golden FLOSS Solution to the problem.

Quoting: headless_cyborgI'm curious about Rise/Shadow of the TR because their Feral native ports are IMO perfect so they should be the way to go.
They're good ports but not perfect. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is still receiving updates that Feral hasn't added. They could go back and update all their games, but it's probably not profitable at this point.

Wine/Proton is an open source solution, while Feral's wrapper was not. Dare I say this is a better solution?
Dare whatever you feel like.

But Wine/Proton is an open source solution... using a proprietary API to run closed source .EXE and .DLL files on Linux.
Which does not sound too great in my ears.

IMHO, it's a "better than mostly nothing", but not a "Wow, FLOSS!"

Quoting: CFWhitmanActually, the one time that I have tried the native port of Tomb Raider (2013) on an NVIDIA card (GTX 1650), it seemed to run fine there for me also (tested near the middle of 2020). I generally would expect the Vulkan based ports to run fine on NVIDIA. I've seen a number of claims about Feral ported games, especially old OpenGL ones, not running correctly on NVIDIA cards, though.
Didn't meet a problem with any Feral port I played, always native, always on Nvidia.
