Ah! I really like that "humorous video short". It could have been terrible, but it wasn't! There is some risk that I'll have to buy both this AND that game from yesterdays articles - Conflicks - just because of the nice videos. Also, 4X kind of used to be my thing once upon a time so... yeah! ^_^
New Linux Gaming Survey For April

I really like that the post about the new survey is separated from the post detailing the results of the old survey. This makes it easier to locate the link and send it to others. Also, looking at the amount of answers - I think it worked! Already almost 2000 responses! Compare this to the January survey which in total had 926 respondents...
GOL Survey Results: September

I fully understand that not all questions can be in this survey, so this is not a real suggestion, but... I am really curious how many people are like me: Linux users since many years, with the "benefit" of not being able to play games any longer and hence we could save save a lot of money on hardware.
Then Humble and Valve came along and made it possible for us to play games... but all we have are crappy old laptops that needed not to be replaced for a long time (since Linux is so lean on resources). I am a scientist at a university - we don't make money - we make science! I am saving for a Steam machine but I am almost happy that it is delayed because I could still barely afford a controller (family and bad times... sigh).
Anyhow - the question could be something as simple as "Do you have a computer that is primarily used for gaming", or "Is your primary gaming computer a laptop" or a one-of special question "How much did you so far spend on gaming hardware during 2014".
Don't worry about me - Democracy 3 and Dungeons of Dredmor take me through the weeks now. And Half Life 1 worked well until my dedicated NVIDIA graphics card burned out a few months ago.

Feral Interactive Wish To Know Why You Game On Linux

When I became a scientist for real, I gave up on using Windows - the tools I needed were not as easily available there. I missed gaming for a while, but at the same time I could concentrate on writing my thesis, so it was a big win-win. When my thesis was done Humble and (soon thereafter) Steam had started to publish things for Linux. This meant that I didn't have to go back. It made me very happy.
I use Linux because:
1) I need to use it for work anyway, and it is annoying to shift systems all the time.
2) I feel that operating systems are too operation-critical to be delegated to companies that we do not know how long they will stay in business and be able to support them.
3) There is of course a community aspect as well...
