Frogatto & Friends Commercial Version Coming Soon To Linux

Frogatto was already on GNU/Linux, I already talked about that some time ago. The headline is a bit misleading. It was already being sold for the iPhone, and now it seems it's also being sold for Windows, Mac and soon for GNU/Linux, but it's already on most distributions. I don't know if that means it will come with extra content or it's some kind of donation, I fail to see that info anywhere. Anyway, buying opensource is a great way to support it.

I almost passed on this one because of the Steam reference in the title, I just read about it somewhere else and noticed it was available at the Humble Store.
Deep SIlver's AAA games could come to linux

I only use GNU/Linux for everything (even at work), and it's not because Microsoft is evil but because I don't like paying for shit. So I won't buy those Windows games I can't play. I avoid Wine too because I don't think it's a good solution at all, it isn't user friendly and unsupported.
The Demo Is Dead, Long Live The Demo

I like trying demos first mostly to see that the game works and has good performance on my computer. There's some awful ports out there that I don't want to spend money on.

For me there's a big difference in saying "I would say there's a good chance" and "we're fully commited to do it and working on it". I already knew it could happen, same as "it could rain", I'd like to know that you're working on making it happen.
THQ planning to do ports when it's clear they're getting ready to file bankruptcy? Clearly no. For Deep Silver I guess it's the same, they just want to get the maximum income from the usual HB customers.

Crowd-Funding Linux Graphics Card Driver Development?

Quoting: SuperuserAdditionally, why do proprietary graphics drivers not use Mesa? Is it due to the restrictions of the GNU GPL?It has nothing to do with licensing, you can run propietary games linked to GPL software, I do it all the time. Manufacturers have their own implementations optimized for their hardware, they don't just compete in the hardware, also in the software.
Chaos Engine Remake will come to Linux

Maybe if I tried hard enough it could work but the question is why should I try so hard when there's already a ton of games working smoothly? No problem really, it's just that I understood the only enhancement would be the Steam requirement.

Quoting: liamdaweI know they are trying to fix things and I guess that some day it will work effortlessly. Maybe next time I try...Quoting: berarmaSo the only new feature will be that it requires Steam? I'm better using the emulation.Completely untrue Valve has been fixing multiple issues for other distro's.
I would try Steam and maybe buy DRM-free games if they truly exist, but I still can't run it. When Valve said they would target Ubuntu they meant making sure it wouldn't run easily anywhere else.
Quoting: GuestThe video mentions several things - they're keeping the core game as it is, but things like online multiplayer (2 person co-op), some graphical improvements, and more things are being done. They also mentioned wanting to allow steamworks support so people can make their own levels, etc.Sorry, I relied solely on the article and that's what I understood.
But it will be the original game at its core. The video shows gameplay footage. Really, go watch and listen to the video.
It'd be nice if they could bring it Steam, Desura, and stand-alone, but I guess I can understand things from their point of view.
Also, no probems running Steam on two Gentoo boxes here (without pulseaudio) - what distro are you running?

Linden Lab makers of Second Life buys out Desura

Quoting: HamishTrust me Berarma, there are plenty of reasons to get nervous when one company buys out another. I do not think being a little worried was unjustified. And we obviously have different perspectives on how we use our money.I know what may happen but things can also happen when a company isn't bought, companies can make changes anytime. The games I buy in Desura I would have bought them anyway at the same price, I buy them there because I like the service like it is now, I won't buy when I don't like the service anymore. The different perspective might be that I don't buy on a non-existent promise.

Quoting: HamishSome have panicked a bit. I don't have the feeling I'm investing in Desura with the money I pay, it's just a service. I just expect they give me a chance to download all games I bought before making a significant change to their service terms or closing it. I feel I'm just entitled to that but of course I also hope they keep doing the same and getting better in their weak spots. The Linden Labs press release and the working team's words just point to the later. :-)Quoting: s_dI don't think I'll be participating in any sort of Desura boycott.I do not think anyone brought up the idea of boycotting Desura, but rather that they wanted a bit more information to be released before investing in it again. In my mind that information has now become available, so I am quite happy with how things stand at present. :)
