Diablo IV free to play on Steam until Tuesday
23 Nov 2023 at 4:13 pm UTC

Quoting: RaySoundI hope it will be synchronized with the Blizzard account
Looks like it does Synchronize. I installed the free to play. Pretty sure I already linked my Steam account with my Battle.net account when installing Overwatch 2. I brought up D4, it logged into the full game, all my characters. Started the game with my current character. Immediately was booted. Achievements were automatically applied. I tried the game again, logged into current character again and the game played fine. If you have D4 purchased on Battle.net then it's worth installing the Free To Play and getting it all synced up. I don't have any DLC and I only bought the regular game on Battle.net so I can only speak for the base game. The Steam store now makes it look like I bought the game thus far. Guess we will see how it all pans out when the Free to Play time is up on Steam.

October 23 Steam Survey: Simplified Chinese rises, Linux and macOS decline

Quoting: Purple Library GuyAs usual, my takeaway from this kind of thing is, we need to get the Chinese using Linux.
I think we need to take a page from our Indian brothers and sisters.

Ubuntu 23.10 'Mantic Minotaur' is out now
22 Oct 2023 at 12:20 am UTC

Quoting: fenglengshunI usually launch it something like this: `gamescope -w 1477 -h 831 -W 1920 -H 1080 -r 60 -o 30 -f -F fsr --sharpness 10 --expose-wayland -- mangohud --dlsym %command%`.
I see. Looks like gamescope is not part of the steam package yet. Hopefully soon they'll have it altogether so it's as seamless as the SteamDeck experience.

Quoting: fenglengshunOh, nice. Does having both gamescope and mangohud on at the same time works btw? There's a lot of times where this doesn't work, for some reason.
When you say Gamescope do you mean Big Picture? If so, yes that's how I used it. I didn't try any special MangHud config though.

The way I understand it, Gamescope is a specialized Wayland compositor for SteamDeck and looks like BigPicture.

Quoting: HighballI don't know how to enable MangoHud except the Steam Deck way. I don't use it normally. Maybe that does already work out of the box.
Usually, I just install mangohud, and then add an environment variable or invoke the command in launch options.
Ahhh, I looked up the mangohud repo. From the instructions there, I put this mangohud %command% in the launch options. Then the mangohud overlayed the game. So I can confirm that mangohud does in fact come with the snap and works. Not as seamless as the SteamDeck. But MangoHud is there for sure.

Quoting: fenglengshunDoes Steam Snap work well yet?
Quoting: BrokattAs a concept like the idea of combining Steam, Mesa-latest and MangoHud all in one easy to install snap.
It seems to run fine. I don't see MangoHud or an option to launch MangoHud. If you are in Big Picture, under the battery icon (performance category) you only get an option to enable the FPS counter and what corner to display it in. Also, in big picture mode the Network toolcharm at the top right has a no sign through it. When you go to the Internet settings through big picture, there is just a black box with some error logs messages. I don't think it should be out of beta. You also get some extra handy commands.

commands:
  - steam.glxgears
  - steam.glxinfo
  - steam.report
  - steam
  - steam.test
  - steam.vkcube
  - steam.vulkaninfo

I don't know how to enable MangoHud except the Steam Deck way. I don't use it normally. Maybe that does already work out of the box.

Hope this is helpful.

You'll also come across their new and improved Ubuntu App Center, which supports both Snap and deb package formats under one roof.
Cool. Does it tell you which is which?
Yeah, there is a drop down. You just pick, snap, flatpak, apt. Also, looks like you can also select between candidate versions like `latest/stable`.

Welcome to opposite land where Microsoft has a Linux install tutorial

Quoting: ArehandoroI still think that Windows will end up being a Linux distribution, and that I will not trust Microsoft any time.
Yep, I used to work for a company that had access to the Windows Source code. There were various kernels that I would write my drivers for. They of course had the kernel source for Amd64, Arm64, and others. During the whole Windows Phone debacle, eventually you saw an Android source repo. Windows Phone died and then came the Android version of MSFT phones. Now looks whats happening. You have CBL-Mariner (MSFT's Linux distro). Originally a light weight Linux distro for Azure containers and now as container host as well. With the push for Office 365, soon MSFT will add their own custom user land, just like Google does with ChromeOS. You'll get your Office 365 instance and it will be a desktop CBL-Mariner instance. The writing is on the wall for sure.
