The Elder Scrolls: Arena game engine remake OpenTESArena adds Vulkan support

This is probably my most anticipated source port, so glad to see they're still developing it! I've never played Arena, and I've always wanted to experience the beginning of TES. Not bad enough to put up with DOSBox though.

The flickering in flatpak and Steam is finally gone... HDR is working... the dream of KDE/Wayland/Nvidia may finally be coming true :,-)

Big congrats to the dev team! I barely know how to use MS Paint-level programs, so GIMP is way beyond me, but I hope it proves useful to those who need it. :)

Steam Deck SteamOS 3.6.23 Beta released with fixes for rendering issues with Avowed
6 Mar 2025 at 8:38 am UTC

I wonder what rendering issues with Avowed they're referring to. I tried it on my Steam Deck, and I didn't notice many issues beyond a generally low framerate (thanks Unreal Engine 5).

NVIDIA stable driver 570.124.04 released for Linux with VRR for multiple displays and various bug fixes
27 Feb 2025 at 5:44 pm UTC Likes: 1

Fixed an issue which caused stuttering and performance issues when scrolling windows in Wayland with GSP firmware enabled.
Can't wait to upgrade tonight and realize with disappointment that this doesn't fix Steam or flatpaks flickering.:smile:

Edit: y'all aren't gonna believe this but I was 100% right and Steam is still a flickery mess.

Stable Steam Client update for Desktop and Steam Deck brings a whole lot of fixes

I am on my hands and knees begging Valve to fix Big Picture for NVIDIA+Wayland users. It's been years!

Factorio 2.0 and Factorio: Space Age DLC are out now
21 Oct 2024 at 2:27 pm UTC

One of the many cool things about Factorio is that it supports a native Wayland environment without the use of xwayland. GamingOnLinux posted about it a while back. Simply enter the following in your Steam launch options:

SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland %command%

Can't wait to dive in once again!

Unreal Engine 5 editor quietly gets a proper Linux version
21 Jul 2022 at 8:02 am UTC

Quoting: elmapulany chance of getting this running into SteamDeck/steamOS ?
Maybe! I think the minimum required RAM is 32GB on Linux, but the editor runs ok on my machine with 16GB. I don't see why it wouldn't work on the SteamDeck. Storage would be the biggest barrier.
