You can also use the right one as a mouse. Weird.
I'm a little unclear what you're supposed to do with the controller bits once you pull them off. Do you stick them together? That would be weirdly narrow. Do you just use them as separate bits, one in each hand? You can stick them together:

I don't think these are crazy prices for a 32GB/2TB gaming/general purpose computer that is ~2lbs.
If you stop thinking of this as a handheld gaming PC going toe-to-toe with the Steam Deck and Switch 2 and instead think of it as an incredibly compact PC with great specs for under $2k, suddenly it doesn't look sp bad.
I just gave up a work laptop (Asus Zenbook Ultra 7/16GB/512GB) for an original Legion Go that I picked up used. I've long wanted a fast machine around the same size as a Surface Go. The Legion Go is the best option that I could find. I've disconnected the controllers and it's a small powerful tablet running Windows. (Not my favourite at work, but needed for some things there.)
With 32GB of RAM that can shift between CPU and GPU (I assume), this would even be a decent machine for local LLM tasks.
This isn't a great Steam Deck competitor, but it is a pretty nice Windows machine (if you want such a thing) that can also play games.
Me, I'd rather have a high end one of these with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse than a Dell laptop.
It's nice to see some new designs on computer hardware.

Happy three years to the Steam Deck - the Linux gaming machine that changed everything

Wow. Happy Birthday, Steam Deck. I pre-ordered mine, didn't get it for a while, but have loved it since day one. No exaggeration, the Steam Deck OLED is my all-time favourite piece of tech, and that is saying a lot.
Valve knocked it out of the park with the Steam Deck, and their post-release dedication to it as a platform is absolutely spectacular. Compare this to the Humane pin.
Three years on and it's still an impressive computer for the money, and a stellar gaming device.

Watch out! This update killed Desktop mode for me. If you use that, I suggest waiting. Reverting to Beta worked fine for me. Someone else had the same issue in the discussion pages on Steam. Preview is Preview.

I'm a little surprised that none of these handheld gaming machines are giving a SteamOS option. Valve is developing it all in the open. There have even been community efforts to package up an installable ISO: https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso [External Link]
Would it take some effort? Sure, but most of this hardware is pretty standard stuff anyway, so would work well with the kernel in SteamOS 3.5, and running Windows 11 on these devices takes effort, too.
I've flipped this around and have been using SteamOS on an AMD Ryzen-based laptop that I own. The experience has been great so far. SteamOS, as easily used on the Steam Deck, is a very interesting software project. I would love to see efforts in broadening it's use on other devices and form factors.

Solid update! Works great with my odd displays and docks. If anything, better frame rates so far. Nice!

Balder’s Gate 3 is playing very well on my Steam Deck. I dropped the settings all down to minimum but have been ratcheting up the ones that mean something to me; I’m now more or less on medium settings with little noticeable difference on framerate.
I’ve been playing 5e D&D for a few years now. Larian’s implementation of 5e mechanics is awesome. It’s the first RPG I’ve been able to get into, and will definitely help out my IRL weekly sessions. I am very impressed.

Nice! For me, the start of legit Linux gaming was with Loki Software in the late 90s:

I still have Corel Linux with Civ:Call To Power, Heavy Gear II, Quake III, and a few others.
Truly, though, Steam coming to Linux has been the best thing to happen to desktop Linux since Ubuntu and Canonical. Valve as a company and Steam as a platform are such a cool part of modern computing. I love that they continue to buck the broader tech trends while still keeping current and moving things forward. The Steam Deck is a marvel. I look forward to what Valve will do with their next 10 years of Linux gaming.

JSAUX release 'CaseKiller' for the official Steam Deck Dock to help with protective cases

Quoting: EikeIt was in the original case but the case wasn't zipped closed. Totally my fault.Quoting: benmhallI dropped my Steam Deck coming out of the car twice. On the second drop, I bought a case.Did you have it in its original case?
I am impressed with the durability of the Deck, though. Both times one corner needed to be pressed back together again, but no permanent damage beyond a minor scuff or two.
My current case is OK. It has a kickstand, which I like and use.

This is getting out of hand, kinda.
