No coward can ever be trusted

"Cowards can never be moral. Here is why: People can know what is right and even want to do what is right but still not act rightly." - Mohandas Gandhi

Super Meat Boy 3D looks fast, tough and enraging in the new gameplay trailer

I hope the art style remains playful and not too detailed -- when things translate from anime, manga, or drawings into 3d or even 2d into 3d the shock factor can multiply. It has to keep the playful fantasy style to remain fun -- too much realism would be too distracting and kill this game for me.

Looks okayish so far. It would be funny if they stole a page from Serious Sam 3 and did Hippy gore mode or something with flowers for funzies.

Splitgate 2 is "going back to beta" with the original shutting down as 1047 Games have layoffs

SplitGate 1: 91% Positive
SplitGate 2: 61% Positive

So first they pandered to half of the people with a "Make FPS Great Again" hat, pissing off the other half.

Then they doubled down while announcing $80-145 micro transactions for "skins" pissing everyone off.

Then they pissed off the previously unpissed off half by pandering and begging for forgiveness or something like that.

Did I get that right?

--

Now they are attempting to narcicistically rationalize their mistakes away that they: "launched too early", "bit off more than we could chew" and use excuses like "boneheaded mistakes".

--

Things that should have been learned:

1. Keep your political opinions separate from your business.

2. If you piss off spiteful evangelical activists -- DO NOT BACKTRACK -- you will never be forgiven anyways.

3. Everyone hates expensive micro-transactions.

--

What now? They should:

1. Fail Often
2. Fail Early and
3. Fail Upward

They might as well take some big risks now.

"Performative game dev as 'the product'" is a scourge on Video Games.

This is just a selection event in the industry, someone should create the "Darwin* GameDev Awards" where we send out trophies to publishers that self-annihilate.

Steam now has a UI scaling slider and accessibility menu on desktop

This will be amazing for getting text size right on TVs in large rooms.

I really wish that Vector based graphics were standard and not raster, we could have had vector based TTY that assumes a 3:2 or 4:3 screen and scales without incorrect line-breaks.

I love Steam's strats -- "be best", "do good things for customer", "take care of gamers", "listen".

Video Games Europe release a statement on Stop Killing Games

Quoting: suchput some effort into not killing those games once you're done with them, please. Thank you.
Consumer interests and Publisher interests are diametrically opposed. As consumers it's our responsibility* to exercise our rights to make sure the exchange is fair.

We hold the money, they covet our wealth.

If they want our wealth they need to not engage in theft against consumers.

It is morally wrong to sell someone access to an amenity with the intention of later destroying that amenity.

At the very least they should be required to publish the server source code, a multiplayer API so modders can roll their own, or include LAN based multiplayer so players can continue to use their purchases.

Unreal Tournament solved this in 1999, also CS 1.6, StarCraft BroodWar -- there was no need for a centralized servers. All multiplayer games should be this way in one form or another.
