Quoting: liamdawe@khalismur yes, that's a very valid point I've actually made before myself in our IRC. I meant what I said more in regards to Valve titles, which don't really use many advanced features. Seeing graphically heavy games on Windows and Linux with Linux using Vulkan will be very interesting. It will be great to see Vulkan on lower-end Intel too to see how well it works. This and I'm hoping that open source drivers software side that the Khronos group are going to provide will be enough to incorporate into Wayland and Mir so we see solid Nvidia support on that front as well. that will be awesometastic :D

Quoting: NyamiouThat's understandable, I was only being sarcastic about Planet Explorers. But this goes to show that there should be a Linux icon along with SteamOS then. Because on Linux it works perfectly fine, just not on SteamOS. unless there is a marketing scheme they are working on here. Which I can understand it would be a small strong arm tactic to get devs to comply with the SteamOS "standard".Quoting: neowiz73hmm that's interesting. I assume it's because of the extra launcher? I guess they haven't tested Planet Explorers yet, because they do the same thing. And yet still have their Linux symbol.Valve doesn't have an army of testers, the games were reported by Steam users as not working on SteamOS.
Darksiders & Darksiders II Linux Ports Have Not Been Forgotten About

i've owned both games, just never really got into the 2nd one enough even though it seems a lot better than the first one just because it has a little bit more of an open world and a RPG aspect to it. I might give the 1st one another go if it lands on Linux. If the ports turn out good, then I might have to figure a way to donate to the Linux port.
Because I hope they will port Darksiders 2 so it will give me a good reason to try and give it a good play through. I guess it could work well enough on wine, but I'd rather test the Linux port :)

I've been playing the Unstable builds for awhile, I like to keep my custom mods up to date with all that's going on. it's quite an amazing game. especially with certain add-ons like Starbound Side Stories and the megaman mod. which even great mods like that are going through a lot of growing pains because of so many changes lately. Plus with native Linux binaries that are included for use with modding the game, It's a class A game to me.
It's insane what their engine allows you to do, there is absolutely no limit to what you can add to the game. the new weapon skills are fun and interesting.
Plus the AI is a lot smarter than it once was. they will actually try to corner you and work around obstacles much better than before.
Lots of new planet and environment changes as in new backgrounds for planets and a lot of nice random structure and design blobs that give planets a more lively feel.
I've already sank over 300 hrs into this game and it still doesn't get old with me. there are very few games like that these days for me.

Developers Of Ashes Of The Singularity State Linux Will Come After Vulkan Arrives

I loved Galactic Civ 1 and 2, it was my personal get away after MOO3 bombed. Ashes of the Singularity looks promising.
I was curious to see something from them on Linux ports since they seemed to be hardcore Windows devotees for the longest stretch. I've always thought if Stardock would bring their flare for innovative desktop designs to Linux, they would be much more welcomed.
It's cool that Vulkan seems to be ushering in a new age of Linux games :)

not sure why Starbound was removed, I've never had to install anything extra to run it. it's one of the few games that actually has Linux binaries included for unpacking their assets pkg for modding purposes.

yep, my dumbest moment in the past 10 or so years was forking out money to this game on kickstarter. just because they promise a Linux version doesn't always constitute they actually will. the only way I'll do kickstarter again is if the company is a well known good developer of Linux games already.
Better late than never though, maybe one of these years I'll actually get to play this game.

Buying Linux Games From Cheap Bundle Websites & Stores, Some Important Information

This is why I say I wouldn't worry about it, because the absolute only reason we are seeing so many games on Steam for Linux right now is all because of the work Valve has done. And like most investments it will take time before we see any real headway. And the greatest part about Steam is the games will be there for many years to come, so all the developers porting and making games for Linux right now will reap the rewards more-so in the long term.
But I digress and will remain optimistic that Steam Machines will be at least decent on sales to the point we are at the very least higher than Apple on PC market share. So companies won't have much of an argument on that front.
But other than Valve there is also Vulkan that is partly because of a push Valve has made to get Vulkan ready around the time of the Steam Machine launch. I'm guessing but I'd wager we will see a public release sometime in December maybe sooner.
I just hope we start to really see more of a AAA developer presence in Linux that way we will see some really nice advancements when it comes to Linux computing in general. Because for years I've always heard complaints about how Linux doesn't have certain nuance apps or programs... But maybe with enough developer support we may see even better applications than proprietary software. This is the era of open source and I think Epic Games understands this more-so than most other companies. Google and Android has shown people a taste of what can happen with open source software.

Quoting: SamsaiI highly disagree here. We should ensure the devs get as much money back from their investments now (provided the ports are good enough, don't support bad products) because there is absolutely no telling how big the impact of Steam Machines will end up being. If Steam Machines end up not being all that successful for a year or two, these guys might end up reconsidering their porting efforts.I agree somewhat, I do try my best to purchase many of the games at a fair price so Linux is well represented. But in the long run if the Steam Machines are a flop, then we won't see much development either way, just because the sheer market share is so small. We may not see quite as many AAA titles anymore, but only certain developers that aren't greedy and see an extra ~$500k to ~$1 million as a worthwhile deal in the short term. Mostly will be indie developers like it is now. Which is fine with me, because I've found a lot of very fun indie games.

that's awesome, the games looks fun, might have to try and pick up a copy for myself. it's good to see when developers are cool and engaged like this. it really shows how much they care about what they are doing.
