Quoting: Stupendous ManBioshock. I haven't played it, but from the few YouTube videos I've seen of it, the style is very similar to the above picture.
I hope it's Bioshock - one of my pet peeves is having latter games in my collection, whilst not having the games before them (yes, I know that Bioshock is technically a different story, but still...), in fact I often refuse to purchase a game until I have the originals!

I think I might be disappointed though - you guys are all talking about Bioshock Infinite and to be honest, that would make more sense (thann Bioshock) from a commercial standpoint (plus they've already indicated that it's coming to Linux-based operating systems)...

But, I can always cross my fingers.

Quoting: DrMcCoyBy going to a lawyer and sending you a Cease & Desist letter. If you'll ignore it, they're going to sue you for trademark infringement (use of the Super Mario name and character likenesses), as well as copyright infringement (creating and distributing works that is based on existing copyrighted work (character models, level layout, ...) without the expressed permission of the copyright holder).
True, but if the source code is released under an Open Source license, then the company (in this case, Nintendo) would have to go after anyone hosting, reviewing or otherwise interacting with/using that source code...

Like I said, it can be done (action taken, that is) if the source code is released as Open Source, but it's potentially a lot of work on behalf of the copyright holder, largely depending on how quickly the source code is distributed throughout the Interweb.

Quoting: subSome companies let you use some of their IP's for free software project as long as you don't
attempt to make money from it and the game content is well aligned with the canon
Well now that you mentioned it, I just remembered something and it is exactly why I might be wrong about The Big N having a dummy-spit - Nintendo announced a few weeks back that they are permitting fair use of their intellectual property for fan-made projects!

I had completely forgotten about it, but then I remembered today because the cake-decorating/novelty cake community were going nuts about it (my wife semi-professionally does cake-decorating and novelty/wedding cakes), due to the fact that they are no longer bound by legal restrictions.

Wifey sent me a few links just now, which you will find below - but bear in mind, I've only skimmed these articles and I'm no lawyer, so I can't comment on the specifics of this new stance by Nintendo...

But, it is a positive sign.

Anyway, it should be interesting to see if this fan-made version of Super Mario 64 falls under this new policy or not...

Here's the links, if you want to read them in full or clarify the specifics:

Quoting: Alex VSharpI am one of those few people who has this strange and probably unrealistic desire that Nintendo switches to Linux (SteamOS) and then gives us their games on PC as well.
Well it'd be interesting to see Nintendo jump on the "Steam Machine" bandwagon, after all, it'd have a pretty big head-start during the launch... And a big catalog to offer at launch.

Of course, the Catch 22 would be that anyone whom manufacturers a "Steam Machine" would also have access to any games Nintendo released for Steam OS, which I don't think the Big N would be too happy about...

C4 Engine Drops Linux Support, Developer Says Linux Is Inferior

Quoting: N30NStrange approach, but at lease with all the frustration and (apparently) negative feedback he is still attempting once again to resolve the problem.
Um no, I'm pretty sure he's not... He said he's installing Microsoft Windows 7, not a Linux-based operating system.

Though that may shed some light on his problems - he's using a "new, high-end PC", so I think it's pretty safe to assume he's dual-booting and his computer has a UEFI, which as some of us know, is a pain in the a$$ under a dual-boot scenario...

Possibly a combination of a graphics card issue (*cough cough* AMD *cough cough*) and the Secure Boot bull$%&t?

A "new, high-end PC" running Microsoft Windows 8 or Microsoft Windows 8.1 will have a UEFI with Secure Boot enabled by default; under a dual-boot configuration, most "mainstream" PCs have issues starting-up and it's common that they will not start-up at all...

This was the reason I gave-up and decided to single-boot Ubuntu on the family PC (my laptop is a much older model with a BIOS, so when I used to dual-boot, I had no problems).

Quoting: sakurazukaWild guess: he has unsuported AMD card and it "freezes" after login screen with fglrx installed.
The same thought crossed my mind (unfortunately, I used a stupid AMD card too, for the time being)...

Apparently this developer did seek support for his problems, problems which are supposedly widespread:

Though curiously, he has been pretty vague about exactly what his problems were... It would be helpful - both to his problems and to his standing within the Gaming Community - if he was a little more specific regarding what his problems were and/or what he did to resolve them.

This looks pretty cool, and some of the animations (such as the rain) in that video were impressive...

Added to my "wish" list, with a purchase once it's actually available for Linux-based operating systems.
