NVIDIA confirm upcoming driver will be the last for Maxwell, Pascal and Volta

They still do get the next driver. The next driver series. So I think it sounds more dangerous than it is at the moment. That's not what this article says though... It explicitly states that NVIDIA will be ending driver support for the aforementioned cards.

@LoudTechie :
but it's latest models are competitive with Qualcomms ARM desktop processors in preformance and battery life(AMD's only realistic opponent from the ARM side). Are they though? Apple's 'M' series chips are pretty powerful, and their minimal power usage it next level.

It's about AMD's chips, so my comment is completely relevant, since some sections of the industry are moving towards ARM-based C{Us, which often offer loads of raw power with minimal power usage... Which is perfectly suited to mobile devices like the Steam Deck.
In saying that, changing the architecture would make it significantly more difficult for all of the existing games to run smoothly, if at all, (under a Linux-based operating system or Microsoft Windows), so there's that awfully big hurdle.

I wonder if they'll come up with an ARM-based competitor to Apple's chips... Loads of raw power with significantly improved usage times / less power usage.

I'm not sure how someone who specializes in benchmarking software doesn't understand that.Unless the intention is to convince people to continue to use Windows?

And yet they'll maintain a separate release for macOS... Considering macOS' market share compared to Linux, this is just blatant laziness and hypocrisy.
Steam Deck gets a big upgrade with SteamOS 3.7 and you can now install it on other AMD handhelds

If I could replace said laptop with something that it capable of also running games to an acceptable standard, SteamOS would logically be a much better alternative to Pop!_OS.

Handhelds are great, but can this be installed on a gaming PC for a "Steam Machine" living room experience? This is what I want to know... I currently run Pop!_OS on an ancient laptop for use as a home theater PC (I have it connected to a projector and everything) - but I hope to replace that at some point in the medium-term future,

Valve announce SteamOS Compatibility ratings, an extension of Steam Deck Verified for more devices

That's the sort of games I'm talking about.
The games you need to tinker with is a different story, and for that I agree it should be a separate project.

Not using something like ProtonDB is the right way to go for Valve. Ordinary customers want to play, not tinker.I get what you're saying and you're not wrong... But I've seen a LOT of games where Steam claims they don't work or hasn't given them a rating, but ProtonDB rates them as working with little to no effort.

There's LOADS of games that Steam says won't work or won't work properly... But after checking on ProtonDB, one can see that it will work with little or no effort.
And occasionally, a game will be listed as working partially or completely by Steam, only to have ProtonDB say something different.
Valve Software should either do deal with ProtonDB wherein their rating system is Officially integrated with Steam / SteamOS, or they should just buy the website outright and integrate within the Steam ecosystem.

They should do something like ProtonDB. Why not? I've seen a lot of verified games with problems.
They should do *exactly* ProtonDB. Just like what GOG does with howlongtobeat, when they show you "time to beat the game" straight at the product page with data taken from hltb. Steam should do the same with ProtonDB and it's done.
Totally agree with others: they should just DO protondb. Either buy them and just take it over as official, or do exactly the same. The current "deck verified" is totally worthless.100%.
