I think it is imperative that Valve pushes Linux as a gaming platform... No more Windows rubbish!

It's like a never ending cycle
developers: "there are not enough linux users so we wont develop for it"
users: "Linux doesn't have enough games. I won't switch to it."

Opinion: Can Linux Be A Viable Gaming Platform? Thoughts From A Sympathetic Game Developer

Ten years ago, I would have agreed with anyone that criticized Linux as a gaming platform... but now, in 2015, what does Windows have that Linux does not? Two things and two things only.
Users - Windows still dominates the PC market, with Linux and Mac taking very similar smaller shares.
AAA Game releases - I think Valve is the only one actively developing for our platform that isn't an indie developer. I think.
Linux has:
Good distributions - Ubuntu and it's "clones" (For lack of a better word) lead the charge. Valve themselves have targeted Ubuntu.
Good drivers - For the most part, nVidia and ATI drivers just work. I don't use the open source drivers, so I can't comment on those.
Game distribution - Most distros have their own package distro system with a very large number of free/open source games.. and then there is Steam. Steam has a very good number of Linux games already. Most of them are Indie, but Half-Life 2 runs amazingly well.
Support - Seriously, go to the forums of any major distro and you can get help.
OSes that are not aimed at mobile platforms. I am looking at you, Windows 8 (And to a lesser extent, Ubuntu)

Valve Officially Drop Paid Mods

It's stupid to remove the system completely, in my opinion. I mean, I know a lot of very minor mods were behind a paywall and that was pathetic... but authors that devote hundreds of hours to a mod (such as a total conversion) do deserve to be compensated for their work.
I'm sure Valve is probably doing research on how to meet this end in a different light.

Steam Officially Starts Allowing Paid Mods In The Workshop, People Are Upset

It's about time. A lot of people put hard work into creating some very good and original mods. They go as far as new story, and sometimes even total conversions. They deserve to be able to charge for their work, just like any game creator on Steam.
But I don't think every mod is going to go paid... so stop being silly.

Quoting: tuubiIt's an analogy...Quoting: BomyneImagine going to McDonalds and buying a big mac. If McD ran by that agreement, then you have a right to a refund until you stick that big mac in your mouth and chow down on it.Laws like this obviously do not apply to food, so this is basic apples to oranges.

That's my understanding anyway.

Quoting: minjNow this is too legalise for me. It reads like we have that right but actually we don't because all purchases will include a mandatory checkmark to waive that right, or did I misunderstand it?If i understand it correctly, you have a right to a refund until you consume the product. That might include playing the game after a certain point.
Is that even legal? o.0

Because we are slaves to the Microsoft lapdogs, i guess.
I recently unsubscribed to WoW because of their attitude towards Linux. I was dual-booting but i think i'll get rid of windows now. no longer need it.

Question: I know OSX is based on an Unix core... and I saw X11 installed on my Mac... How different is OSX from linux? More to the point, would it be difficult to port the OSX versions of the games to Linux?
