These games work great... 0 hassle couch multiplayer with Smartphones and low system requirements on the Linux side of things (I run it on a low power ATOM chip). Fully recommended if you have some friends over for a warm up party or so.

Still great news... I hope it comes to Solus soon.

A three-way look at Rocket League on Linux, with D9VK versus Linux Native

What I wonder is in how far one should also factor in the driver situation. On Intel GPUs under Linux the OpenGL driver has always been behind the Windows ones a bit, but for Vulkan it is actually the opposite. For example the Dolphin Emu runs much better with Vulkan on a low powered Linux laptop.

So old games with a dx9 to vulkan transition might actually run especially well on Intel GPUs compared to native OpenGL ports.

Seems pretty cool indeed. Need to try it on my regular PC though... the GPDWin1 can't quite handle it :(

Quoting: JuliusIt wasn't so much that Valve understood, but rather that they were providing the latest version of the Quake1 engine in a really popular game (Half-Life). Quake1 has to this day an active modding scene as id really understood (back then).
I remember this quite different. Quake itself was popular but not like this. Not at all. Sorry. Half-Life _became_ popular due to it's superb modding support.

Releasing the tools needed for this was a perfect move at this time.

I was there. Run my own mod projects (as in plural).
You misunderstood me... I wasn't talking about Quake's (as a game) popularity as a modding platform which of course was much surpassed by Half-Life. But Half-Life as a modding platform only became so popular because the Quake ENGINE was designed from ground up to be extremely modding friendly. This was very little of Valve's doing... they just happened to make a very popular game with a superbly moddable engine. I was there too by the way ;)

tbf I wonder how modding would look nowadays without Half-Life back then. That modding support and scene, that evolved around it, was unseen before.

So yeah.. Valve understood this. Back then at least.

A bit strange that the trailer mentions Starcraft in the end, when this is clearly inspired by Age of Empires...

Uh, that could actually work on Mobile VR / Occulus Quest... I hope they will consider that :)
