Would Startpage be a better alt engine? They still use Google results, so I feel like that's better to use...

I think upscaling is fine when used properly. I remember Serious Sam Fusion had an upscaling option already in 2017, which allowed me to enjoy the game on my shitty laptop back then.Agree strongly. Plus, emulation is another key place to use upscaling, at least for me
Now frame generation is what baffles me. It actually causes artefacts, lag, and other self-induced problems just to get that artificially high FPS number.
Here is an article that sums it up quite nicely. A bit lengthy and ranty, but worth a read:

I'll stick with my Legion Go original. Same Z1 Extreme, bigger screen, and it's higher refresh rate. (144Hz vs the S's 120)

Not too sure what that has to do with this particular article... But since I discovered Hall Effect controllers a few months ago, I'm sold. The Legion Go uses 'em - they're so good
Aside from the price, I'm yet to hear a negative thing about them, and I think it would be disappointing if any Steam Deck successors don't offer this.

Hopefully it's the start of a comprehensive re-evaluation of the ratings. "30 fps at native resolution and default settings" is their stated benchmark for "performs well on Deck," and that's fair enough - as long as the rating actually reflects that. Obviously there have been cases where games don't manage that, and it hasn't been reflected in Valve's rating; that needs to be fixed. What about Balatro? Runs can EASILY dip below 30, and that's before we take Cryptid into account
