Could it be possible to have them in higher resolution? (I have a 2560x1440)
And also in a lossless format like PNG? Some JPEG compression artifact aren't that beautiful ;)

I don't understand, there's more fullscreen than borderless fullscreen?

QuoteWhat are your thoughts, any theories?
Vulkan won't make any performance difference between Linux and Windows. Only the drivers will.

Vulkan will be good for Linux because it's a cross-platform API and that it's closer to what the game devs wants (something as powerful as DirectX 12)

Dell set to introduce beefed up Steam Machines

I'd really like to have an AMD RX480 Alienware SteamMachine.

With proper tweaks, it could be a pretty good machine for very nice price. Remember that AMD has always been the best for consoles (both XBox One and PS4 have an HD 7000 series GPU!)

Things I feel Valve need to address to help SteamOS really be something fantastic

Sorry that's a fracking load of text to read so maybe what I'll say has already been said ;)

I tend to agree with people saying that Valve has let SteamOS down, maybe because I prefer to see the glass half empty in this case and then, worst case scenario, I have a happy surprise.

And then... I remember that Valve announced the SteamDevDays a few days ago, where they explicitly talk about "Linux and SteamOS", and "Steam Hardware".

And my glass is half full again...

Valve announce over half a million Steam Controllers have been sold

Oops, found that my controller wasn't working after my reinstallation of Debian.
Good for you, this way I needed to recheck what I had done. :)

I had to change my udev rule to:
# Valve USB devices
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="28de", MODE="0666"
# Steam Controller udev write access
KERNEL=="uinput", MODE="0666"
#KERNEL=="uinput", SUBSYSTEM=="misc", TAG+="uaccess"
# HTC Vive HID Sensor naming and permissioning
KERNEL=="hidraw*", SUBSYSTEM=="hidraw", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0bb4", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2c87", MODE="0666"

... and I've put uinput into the list of modules loaded at start time.
That's in /etc/modules-load.d/modules.conf on my system.

If you happen to own Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (everybody should! ;o) ), it's a good test.
It greets either with "Press enter" - you're not there yet - or with "press (A)" - then you're fine.

Wow that was exactly it! I can play Broforce with a controller now! Why Fedora and Debian doesn't have this configuration by default? (Well I don't really know the udev syntax, so maybe turning everything with uinput in 0666 isn't good... I mean it's literally written "666" :D)

Quoting: EikeI vaguely remember and unfortunately I didn't write it down anywhere apparently...
I had to do some modprobe to make the gamepad emulation work. "modprobe uinput" maybe?

The module wasn't loaded so I ran "sudo modprobe uinput", I unplugged and plugged back again the SteamController dongle, but it didn't work.

Here is my 99-steam-controller-perms.rules:
# Valve USB devices
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="28de", MODE="0666"
# Steam Controller udev write access
KERNEL=="uinput", SUBSYSTEM=="misc", TAG+="uaccess"
# HTC Vive HID Sensor naming and permissioning

Well I've tried again to play Broforce with my SteamController, I tried to change the udev rules as described in the other article, I tried to use different community configurations, but nothing really worked. The best I have is being able to move the helicopter around on the map, but with some really weird inputs like even the triggers on the back was moving the helicopter. And I couldn't even select something in the menu.

It's really weird because the controller configurations are dedicated to Broforce, so it definitely seems to be a problem coming from my PC, but I really don't know why. Maybe Fedora 23 is just really bad at this? Maybe it's a problem with GNOME Shell?

Is there someone here that has both Fedora and a working SteamController?

@Eike: Yep, I've updated my firmware, but it was a long time ago. And, on fedora at least, I can't use the SteamController if Steam is not in BigPicture mode.

@Linas: Thanks, I'll check that too! How do you change the operation mode? I just tried to dl the community layouts.

I have one, but most of my games don't work with it (or work poorly).
For instance, Broforce just doesn't work (but Xbox360 pad does work).

Also, TF2 still displays the keyboard shortcuts although I have the SteamController plugged in. It isn't really easy to learn games this way.

Do you have the same problems?
