Albion Online developer explains why existing owners won't see a Steam key
29 Mar 2018 at 12:28 pm UTC Likes: 1

Maybe we should interpret differently :
For any in-game purchases, you'll need to use the microtransaction API so Steam customers can only make purchases from the Steam Wallet.
can't it be read as : you will need to use the API if you want to let Steam customers use only the steam wallet.

Steam places no restrictions on what you sell or how you sell it nor does it preclude the use of whatever other mechanisms your game has for selling items.
Doesn't seem so clear to me…

Headlander, the new game from Double Fine Productions will not come to Linux

This is sad, but a good way for them to amend would be to open-source their Buddha engine, since it looks like they won't use it anymore. This way we could at least hope for community ports of headlander and some long awaited bugfixes in previous games.

Buy games from G2A? You should just stop already, tinyBuild lost out on approx $450K of sales

Something I don't get is why it is impossible to match a credit card transaction to a steam key. I mean: why is it impossible when receiving the chargeback for the editor to say "OK, for this transaction I sold this key. Invalid transaction => invalid key". I understand this is impossible, not to invalidate a key but to know which key to invalidate and I don't understand why. This would be the solution : if someone buy a key from G2A that suddenly becomes invalid, they would at least ask for a refund to G2A who would lose money or attack the frauders.
Does someone know and could explain, please ?

Double Fine has launched crowdfunding campaign to fund Psychonauts 2

Double Fine is making games that I really like : I finished psychonauts at least twice, same for broken age. I enjoyed every minute of stacking and found costume quest kinda cool even though too simple. I still need to finish broken age but so far i've liked what I have seen. Even massive chalice that I thought wasn't my kind of game is finally pretty cool.
More than that, Double Fine started porting their games to linux in 2012 I think, with humble bundle, and now most of their catalog is on Steam OS and it was never a question for the game that followed until them, I don't remember of any stretch goal for that. How many editors can say that ?
They have done 2 kickstarters, the first one had problems with going over budget and delays, but all went good at the end, they delivered a good game (at least for me). They learned from their mistakes and the second one went smoothly, they communicated a lot and everyone was happy.
I can't say much for spacebase, but at least they didn't leave the player with something unplayable, just not as finished as they expected. And I think they won't do early access again any time soon.
For those 3 projects the risks were clear to me and the risks are also clear for this new project : there is a small chance that they won't deliver at all, a big chance that there will be hiccups in the process, a good chance that the result will be at least not bad considering their experience, and only a tiny chance that it will be outstanding. And a big chance that the project won't happen if there is no support from the community.
I am willing to take the risks, I understand that others won't. I don't think it's a bad thing to try new ways to fund games with more freedom, but like everything when you try new things it's difficult to do it good at first time.

Linux is holding exactly where we thought it would in the Steam Hardware Survey
3 Dec 2015 at 10:09 am UTC

Another reason this hasn't changed is also that I think that steam machine buyers for now are linux gamers. If you look at websites talking about steam machines, linux centered websites are the most enthusiasts by this and those players are the ones that can really benefit from them.
What would be interesting is the number of steam link and steam controllers selled and used, as I imagine people using those and thinking of buying a steam machine in the future instead of buying a new gaming computer and bothering to configure the whole thing to play on a couch. But it will take time.

Feral Interactive are teasing yet another SteamOS & Linux game

just to share my thoughts : there are 3 characters, a young one, an old one, and the highlighted one is in between those ages. Could we say he is of "Middle-age" ? Then I don't know enough games to know which game it could refer to

Firewatch, The Stunning First-person Adventure Game To Release On 9th February 2016 For Linux
13 Oct 2015 at 12:11 pm UTC

Quoting: GuestI’ve been following their blog for a while, and the game sure looks good, but I still have no idea what the gameplay will be like. Walking simulator? First person puzzler? Action? Adventure?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5lyHZIzW8A [External Link]

I would say adventure game. It sure looks really good, good graphics, well written dialogs, the gameplay seems interesting with lots of interaction possible and the ability to climb whatever seems climbable (for me who just finished Dear Esther that looks like an incredible feat). I don't know exactly what the mood of the game will be as it seems they just show the beginning, I just hope that it doesn't turn out as an horror game with masked maniacs running after you to kill you with a machete to feed you to their pet grizzly bear...

Steam Officially Starts Allowing Paid Mods In The Workshop, People Are Upset

Quoting: Comandante oardoThis will be followed by A LOTof copyright lawsuits because of the comercial use of the assets..

Mods must stay FREE
The main developers would have to have signed off for it to be allowed. The developers are the ones who even enable Steam Workshop, it's not automatic for every game.

No, mods shouldn't always stay free.
And in addition I read that Steam and the developers of the game will take 75% of each sale. They wouldn't allow commercial use of their work for free.

If you Google "Aptenodytes forsteri Steam", the second hit is this Steam profile [External Link]. That player only has one game in their account, 7 Days to Die [External Link]. Feral is porting 7 Days to Die to Linux, confirmed. ;)
Interesting theory, but we should consider more seriously the clue : on the picture I don't think it's an emperor penguin but a king penguin or Aptenodytes patagonicus.
Note his wink at the end, he was "pulling your leg".
Says you, I believe in big conspiracy ! :D I wouldn't dismiss this theory though, but what I wanted to point is that we all took for a fact that it was an emperor penguin when it is in fact a king emperor.
