Lionsgate and Steam team up to offer over 100 films on Steam

Quoting: ziabicePublishers never learn from years and years of piracy: offer DRM free content, in mkv, at 1080p and 720p resolution and x264, x265 codec or an open one and you'll win the Internet. Be fair with your customers!
Exactly! And yet, they blame piracy for their low (in their eyes) sales. The thing is, I can't get a legal functional copy of a movie anywhere: bluray can't run in Linux, or at least there is no guarantee that all discs can be read due to DRM. And I'm not about to watch movies through my browser (Amazon etc) when I have a superior media player in Kodi with Ambilight. So what options do I have? Yes, there are plugins for Amazon in Kodi, but they are unofficial and thus not guaranteed to work. Netflix only shows some movies in some countries and no longer allows VPN connections.
Am I supposed to just stick with DVD then? Install Windows (*shudder*)?

The game industry has learned to sell us what we want, how we want it, and I'd never think of pirating a game these days. Music is the same, I usually buy mp3s from Amazon, DRM free.

BTW I hope this discussion is okay, I don't want GoL to get in any trouble due to discussing piracy. Liam, feel free to remove this comment if it bothers you.

The only way I'm going to buy from them is if I get a DRM-free .mkv file. I want to own the stuff I buy, not rent it, and make as many personal backups as I wish.

I tolerate games that require Steam as their DRM, but not movies (or music).

Kerbal Space Program 1.1 released, updated to Unity5, new interface, new tutorials and more

300-something hours so far, and looking forward to many more. Best game evar! ;-)
This is one of the few games that gives an immense feeling of accomplishment when you finally pull off something difficult, like a Duna return mission of visiting Jool's moons. And if you let it, it can teach you a lot about astrodynamics - you can even calculate your mission on paper beforehand and only take the required fuel with you, no more. Not many games let you get that nerdy.

I've been keeping an eye on this game too, and it looks really cool. It has the whole terminal/robot stuff going on that I like; after all I'm using Gentoo Linux and building Arduino robots in my spare time.

Steam Controller on Linux part 2, more thoughts & more issues
18 Apr 2016 at 7:04 pm UTC Likes: 1

I absolutely love my Steam Controller. I use it with all games that are best played with a controller (i.e. anything but strategy games), and have had almost no problems with it. Only a very few games like Eurotruck Sim 2 don't support it. Also, some games require me to stop xboxdrv before it recognizes the controller.

I've only experimented shortly with the gyro in Grid Autosport but didn't find it that great to use in this game. Another part of the controller I hardly use is the left pad, so far I think only Serious Sam 3 has had bindings for it.

Alien Isolation is another game that works wonderfully with the controller, the right pad is super responsive for looking around and the left stick allows me to run or walk as I prefer, which is very important in this game.

Oh, and the battery time is just insane; I've been using it for at least 50 hours, probably many more, and have yet to change the batteries that were included.

All in all this is the best controller I've ever had! When I wish to play something, I just turn on my TV and double tap the Steam logo on the controller, find a game in Big Picture and lean back and enjoy (or crap my pants if it's Alien Isolation!).

I see many of you guys have (music) keyboards; what software do you use them with? I've had nothing but bad experience with Midi keyboards and Linux.

Here's mine, not the best lighting for taking pictures right now, but whatever.

The desk is rather small but comfortable.

The TV is just to the right of the PC, in front of my sofa (where else...). It's connected to the PC as a third monitor.

The 'halo' around the screen is ardulight, an arduino ambilight clone. I usually only use it for movies and such, but it can also be used for games no problem (ardulight; I use the TV for games all the time).

By the way, did you know I like Lego and Kerbals? ;-)

Quoting: catchatyou(...) I've logged all of those hours with an Xbox 360 controller, and it's worked well for me, so I don't think a steering wheel is absolutely necessary (...)
Playing with the Xbox 360 controller, what do you do about the missing buttons, do you have a keyboard at hand? I'm playing with the Xbox controller too but have a few keys assigned to the Steam Controller which I have lying beside me, stuff like raising/lowering the rear wheels, starting/stopping the engine etc. This is why I'd love to play with the Steam Controller instead, since it has more buttons available.

Survival game Rust adds female player models, assigns gender to Steam accounts at random

Quoting: BlackBloodRum... I don't wanna be a naked man!
Then put some clothes on for God's sake! :-p

Regarding the game, why introduce female player models and not let people choose to use them (or not)? As the devs themselves say, before now 50% of the population were unhappy; and now? 50% of the population is unhappy, on average...

I've never played it before, so I'll certainly buy it when it's out!

@Feral: does it work well with the Steam Controller?
