Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition Now Available DRM Free From GOG

Quoting: drmothAlso, Baldur's Gate on Steam is working, just no penguin icon yet on the store page.
Ah, nice. So do both Baldur's Gate (on steam) work on Linux yet?

(Looks like they don't. Just the first one, with a beta code from the steam forums - it's a sticky there, can't miss it)

edit: just bought Baldur's Gate. Happy gaming!

I've never played any of these games, sadly. As I'm a huge RPG fan, which one should I pick, Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale?

Natural Selection 2 Community Developers Need OpenGL Help
25 Nov 2014 at 7:59 am UTC

Played over 80 hours, back when I had dual boot. On Linux the performance is... strange. About 3/4 of a year ago it was pretty okayish, but when the community devs took over I couldn't play anymore. First the shaders wouldn't compile, later I got random crashes on the menu, or on the loading screen.

It was a very, very funny and addictive game, but I'm not willing to maintain a Windows partition just for this and Guild Wars 2 :)

They are facing difficulties with the Source Engine. You can read it up in the steam forums, if you search for "Linux".

I've had some discussions with them, but in contrary to the fun pimps they keep you updated and want to sort this out (at least they say so). They want to deliver what they promised and don't ban people for politely asked questions about the status.

But ya, another point for "Sered wont support early access again, unless it's natively available on Linux at the point when he spends his money." (Yes, I like to talk in the 3rd person of myself ;))

Quoting: wolfyrionStop arguing about crappy GPL3 License and referring to the past about not releasing etc not happy bla bla bla bla ........

Why most of you are not happy about this? :><:
I am happy about the release, while I was (and am) terribly frustrated with the lack of communication regarding issues like this. Not only by the fun pimps but in general.

I for one, backed this project because they promised Linux support. The lack of communication afterwards was rather disturbing and actually is one more reason in my book to not support early access titles, because just like you said:

Quoting: wolfyrionAt least they have keep their promise and released a native Linux than abandon the whole project completely.
Quoting: wolfyrionNow forget the past and start playing the game and dont forget to say a big thanks to the developers...
Please, people, whatever you do, NEVER forget the past! That's one of the major reason this world (even apart from video games ;)) is as shitty as it is for most of the people.

Don't hold a grudge, but neither forget!

Quoting: kozecBS. 7dtd was supposed to be released for linux ~year ago and there were nothing said about early access. They joined it long after kickstarter and basicaly took dump on heads of their suppporters.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not even out for Windows yet? There's not a single review on either gamerankings nor metacritic, and it's only on "Early Access" on Steam.

I mean, sure, so they promised to be done with the game a year ago (or whatever) but you guys make it sound like it's just the Linux version we talk about here, when in fact no version for any platform is properly released yet.
"released", well... we can argue about the term itself, if you want. But I guess it was pretty obvious "released" meant "available natively" here ;)

Valve Plans A Big Steam Machine Presence At GDC 2015

Like you, I personally see no need for SteamOS for myself. I'm quite content with Arch (every single of my computers is running it as primary OS now ;)) What I do hope tho, is that many thinks will benefit all of Linux, at least in the long run.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Looks Closer To A Linux Release

Quoting: GuestJust curious if you are using a Radeon video card becouse they are known for poor Linux performance and that is the only reason I can think of that the proprietary drivers would be slower or break your Linux system. That is personally why I recommend GeForce video cards but if you prefer something different I understand.
Something as important as a driver must be open source in my book. I don't care whether I don't get PhysX (another proprietary thing), or have 20 fps less, if I can play my games just fine.

And that is - with the one major exception of Guild Wars 2 (and Dead Island :X) - the case. I can play all my 80 games that are available for Linux natively, just fine. For some I have more fps than under Windows, for others I have a little less, but all are very well playable.

For me this is something really important, although I do hope I am not that one guy who tries to evangelise everybody (well, sometimes I am, I guess). I don't use Linux solely because it has better performance and my workflow is much better handled there.

I use it, because it's open source, not because it's free, but because I (being a Software Engineer) can study the code, learn from it and improve.
I use it, because I can monitor exactly what's going on on my system at any point in time.
...

I never was a fanboy of any graphics card manufacturer, I had nvidia, amd (even ati back then ;)), a voodoo, a matrox... ;)

Currently I would definitely buy an AMD graphicscard again, because for all the games I play (shooters, rpgs, rts, ...) it never let me down on my favorite plattform even once.

I know that I could get more fps and stuff like physx from nvidia, but to me it would include to much of a sacrifice ;)

If I can't play one game that well, well, I don't really care that much. Decisions must be made and while mine will seem to be a major sacrifice to some eyes, to me it's not. And that's the important part.
It sounds like we are on the same page and we both value software freedom (Opensource). Freedom is the big reason Linux was created to begin with. But we both sacrifice in different areas I sacrifice with closed Nvidia drivers and you sacrifice with some gaming in closed Windows OS. In a perfect world we would have full freedom with a open OS, open drivers, and open gaming.
Not anymore, actually. I don't use Windows at all, unless I absolutely need to for whatever reason. My gaming is on linux like my work :D

I totally concur! Besides, nothing is funnier than shooting your best friend in the face, just because he used your sleeping bag (happened in 7daystodie and since then this is kind of a running gag between us :D - Sadly now somebody is always pointing a gun at me, just to make sure... :D)

Works okayish. Performance is great, but having a few graphical glitches here and there. Other than that: I'm happy to finally have the first part of this awesome game on my favorite platform as well :D
