Maybe it’s time to be open to allowing Linux users to play your games Tim Sweeney? Usually you would want to capitalize on an untapped market. I’m sure if shareholders actually got to vote on this they could have save some of those 1000 people’s jobs. What a douche.

Bazzite gets a big update with KDE Plasma 6.6, Mesa 26.0.1 and more

I’ve been using Bazzite on my Rog Ally X for over a year and recently moved from CachyOS to Bazzite as my daily driver on my desktop pc after being in Cachy since 2024. I have to say that even as an intermediately experienced Linux user, I really feel like Bazzite and its uBlue peers are the future for getting more people to Linux. The devs do an outstanding job maintaining the OS image and while it isn’t as bleeding edge as an Arch distro, it has the benefit of broad compatibility that the faster rolling release cycles of Arch based distros don’t consistently deliver. It has its issues of course, especially if you are an Nvidia user on a deck-image but I have really grown to love it on a whole. Luckily, that is not a concern for me as I use the desktop version on an all AMD build. The immutable aspect can be frustrating at first but as someone that has very little experience with containers, I am loving the challenge of learning how to use containers for things. In that way, it has something for a person that likes to tinker to have some fun with. I’m sure there are folks that think immutable distros destroy the point of Linux freedom, but I would say that it was that very same freedom that allowed people to create these types of containerized OS images. Glad to have konsole back- I didn’t really care for Ptyxis and if I need it it’s still there- what’s odd to me about their recent update is that they said they switched to Kontainers to replace distroshelf but I have found that I needed to install Kontainers myself to get it after the update. 🤷‍♂️

Steam Survey for January 2026 shows a small drop for Linux and macOS

A very small downtick from people that switched and ran away at the first sight of trouble or realized they couldn’t play battlefield 6 maybe?🤣 At least globally user count is up.

Fascinating data for sure. I saw a different article by SteamDeckHQ that showed Stardew Valley at #1, but the data pull was dated January 4-February 2, as opposed to January 3-February 1.
As far as my preference through that time frame- Slots and Daggers, Dispatch, SilkSong, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2, and Deep Rock Survivor have all consumed my gaming time on deck and desk.

The popular Linux distro CachyOS has a big upgrade and some fun stuff for gamers

I have been using CachyOS since November 2024 as my daily driver. I have tried out a lot of other distributions and can honestly say that none of them are quite as good as CachyOS. There are a few that come close but for performance and overall experience, Cachy is the king. I recently ran a benchmark comparing Cyberpunk 2077 on PikaOS vs Cachy and Cachy was beating Pika by an average 40+ fps. Nobara was much closer but still not as fast as CachyOS.
