Feral Interactive Wish To Know Why You Game On Linux

I got sick of Windows, tried Linux for a while with dual boot.
Linux was always faster, and the only reason I still had Windows was because of games.
The pain of Windows was even worth the pain of lack of games, and ditched it.
The only reason I still use or run Windows is for work, if a paying customer "forces" me to use Windows.

Disclaimer: this was back when Windows XP was standard, or even earlier, don't recall :)
Windows 7 would have offended me far less.

Metro 2033 Redux For Linux Looks Closer To Reality

Quoting: seamooseLooks like 64-bit only too...
Is that a :) or :( thing ? My opinion on 32vs64 is this: unless you have an old PC, or are using a memory constrained system/very small disc or have a very good reason not to, you should be using 64bit. Unless you can grantee 100% you will never add more then 4GB before reinstalling your Linux.

Of course supporting 32bit would sill be nice though :)

Minecraft Gains Massive Performance Improvements With New Snapshot

Quoting: XodetaetlIf I understand correctly, VBO (vertex buffer objects) improve FPS but doesn't help with world calculation.
You are right as I understand it though, optimizations and threading is what fixed that I think.
VBO are basically a block of OpenGL instructions which are stored GPU. This way you can just tell the GPU: do these instructions again. Good examples are static meshes, or skyboxes.
Helps most in slow programming languages, as these suffer the most from submitting each and every vertex. (Not saying other languages don't profit a lot from it too)

Nice, but seen a port of Unreal Tournament before, I'd be more assured with a letter from the legal department stating all licensing issues are solved :)

The half-life mod "Science and Industry" had an excellent solution for no commander: voting.
Of course it doesn't replace an actual commander ... but it was kinda interesting / fun.
