Nexus Mods say they are committed to supporting Vortex on SteamOS Linux

The only downside of this is that it'll seemingly only work with Steam since they're relying on Steam for launching, detection, and prefix management. Sounds like if you use the GOG version, you'll probably be better off using something like Limo. It'd be nice if they added some basic functionality to set up non-steam games manually though.

Quoting: AsciiWolfSo, they care only about SteamOS?Unfortunately they're not the only ones. Thankfully, unlike anti-cheat that does hardware check, this should work on basically any distro as the Steam path and Steam library system are more or less the same.

There's an update to this story, Nexus Mods announced today https://www.nexusmods.com/news/15433 [External Link] they will be supporting Vortex on SteamOS, naming the Steam Deck and Steam Machine as hardware/software targets. I assume this means either an AppImage or a Flatpak (or maybe just verify that it installs correctly with Proton) but only verified to function on SteamOS. In practicality, I imagine that means it should still work on 90% of distros in that case, just without any official support like bug reports for other distros.
That said, with the number of developers seemingly only interested in targeting SteamOS, I do hope Valve releases a desktop spin or just makes it slightly easier to configure for regular desktop use. I'll probably give it a spin on my rig whenever they update to Mesa 25

A disappointing development, but I don't think quite as much of a blow as it sounds. Mod Manager 2 works in Wine/Proton, Vortex usually works in Wine/Proton from my testing, and if you'd rather a native solution, there is always Limo. It hasn't been updated in a little while but everything it already does, it does very well. I can recommend it for all Bethesda games at least.

Quoting: CreakThe way I see it, Windows users are the beta testers, for once 😂Ikr! There's also more work to be done for the Linux client, using Wine/Proton in WOW64 mode should hopefully solve most of the concern around 32-bit games. I know Valve has concerns about old 32-bit native Linux games, but personally I question how much of that concern is necessarily warranted. Most of them will have Windows versions that you can run through Proton, and its very possible they may run better than the native Linux builds since a lot of old games never received updates or bug fixes for the Linux versions.
Fedora proposal put forward to improve "production stability and incident management"

To give my two-cents of a couple years using Fedora, this was atypical as was the buggy Fedora 43 launch. This update cycle has been a little rocky, but as they've otherwise been rock solid in my personal experience, I'm more willing to give the benefit of the doubt unless this becomes more of a pattern.

Quoting: CloversheenSeveral people including our own good man Liam tried to be professional and constructive, but were told to shut it.I don't know that I'd characterize what was said as "shut it," I think at worst it was tone policing rather than an attempt to silence criticism. Other members of the Fedora community called out that moderator in both that post and others concerning the issue.
