The future of slop games looks ... pretty terrible.

Streaming or recording on Linux? Check out the audio management tool Pipeweaver

Regarding PipeWire, virtual devices and routing, there's something a few gamers here may be interested in:

I actually just wanted to play Resident Evil 2 Remastered last weekend. I initially used PipeWire config files for setting up immersive simulated surround sound (like Dolby Atmos for Headphones).

But this process is very tedious, because I had to manually set the virtual surround sink as system output device and set the real headphones in the EasyEffects settings. Also, I had to create a filter chain and restart the audio services after every change, causing EasyEffects to crash every time.

Then I got the idea to build an app that does everything only via the PipeWire C API. Oh my, C++ was quite a ride. I'm more of a C# or Python guy. But at last, the app is finally working, and I wanted to share this!

Flatpak is planned but not working currently. Please help if you're a developer.

Great news for HDR enjoyers like me, except the „AI“ stuff.

Bethesda reveal the huge Starfield Free Lanes update and new Terran Armada DLC

Starfield got boring so quickly, but I struggled through to the end. Took way too long, 52 hours.
I couldn't imagine torturing myself with this game again.

Still waiting for that sweet Wayland and 64 Bit update. Not being able to use the Steam overlay with Proton Wayland just sucks.

Great news, now waiting for GE-Proton update.

I've just been brute-forcing performance with my RTX 4090 on DX12 games, but a real fix is in much need.

Overwatch has returned with new heroes and a new UI

I had to get used to the new UI for about 20 minutes, but it's a pretty solid new look. Still running perfectly on Arch for me, but I guess the MP4 export (hardware accelerated) of highlights still won't work.

However, I randomly noticed an extremely nice feature. Since I'm playing this game in HDR with Proton Wayland mode, the Steam overlay (that is still X11) does not work. Meaning, I couldn't take proper screenshots, because all the general desktop screenshot apps (like Spectacle) annoyingly don't support HDR in any way, causing an overtly bright, blown-out image. Steam gets it right by converting to SDR, but the (non-working) overlay is required ... or so I thought! Turns out, if you use the internal overwatch screenshot shortcut, the game directly triggers the screenshot feature via the Steam API, showing the familiar Steam notification even in Proton Wayland without the overlay! This image automatically gets the HDR to SDR tone mapping treatment of Steam and I get my uncompressed file in ~/Bilder/Steam like usual. Fantastic feature, maybe this helps some Linux users.
