Teaser Video Released For Upcoming Metroidvania Platformer Corpses 'N Souls

Yeah, I concur. I love the genre to bits, but... The art style here is going to make it very difficult to discern the background from the foreground, and all the bright particle effects and neon colours make it look quite ridiculous TBH.

But, I'm optimistic that there would be other locations than "acid trip swamp". I could easily imagine how great the very detailed artwork would look in a castle setting for instance... I'm hoping that the neon look is just for this one level, to make it low visibility and therefore harder than the rest. But something tells me that this is going to take precedence throughout the game. Hopefully it changes, but I don't really think it will.

I just noticed that at the end of the video for Antisquad, it says: "Steam PC|Mac|Linux"... So, I guess potentially 6 Linux games... at some point... maybe...

Valve's Newest Controller Design Looks Solid

Speaking of radical changes...
Ultimately this means nothing, but I was just bored so I messed around with the image a bit.
So, yeah "There, I fixed it!"

But it is strange that Valve, wanting to make a mouse and KEYBOARD replacement, ultimately ended up deciding on fewer buttons than the Xbox360 controller (which sometimes could use a few more when mapping keyboard controls for games without controller support). I get that they want to put varying amounts of virtual buttons onto the touchpads but, physical buttons are just better.

I completely agree with micha and valczir, I think adding the analog stick would be a mistake. It's just as bad an idea as it was including a d-pad on analog stick controllers (especially the horrible one on the Xbox360 controller). It only serves to ease people into the new control method, after that it's only used as extra buttons, so just make it proper buttons to begin with. The previous double button diamonds layout also had the benefit they mentioned that the controller would be symmetric and the bindings could therefore be mirrored. <- Which is a much better selling point than that "it has an analog stick..."

I've been a console gamer ever since I switched to Linux, so when Steam finally came out for Linux I was back on PC but I have been playing with my Xbox360 controller. But it is annoying that some games require a different set of options with the xboxdrv to properly detect the controller(s). So as long as the Steam controller just works without all that kind of hassle, I will most likely buy one regardless of the stick, but I would prefer that it was without.

...shouldn't we start a petition or something, to pleed them to remove the stick?
...I feel that we should at least try to do something about it... :P

Legend Of Grimrock 2 On Linux Is Uncertain

It's sad to see a developer go back on Linux support, but... I was pretty disappointed with the first game, so it's not a huge loss for me.

Dead Island Zombie Game Now Available On Linux For Some (updated)
26 Oct 2014 at 9:34 pm UTC

I don't know if anyone else has been running the game on the same hardware on both Windows and Linux, but I have so I thought I would share my findings.

First off I have been running the game on my intel NUC D54250WYK (Haswell i5 with HD graphics 5000), it's not exactly a "gaming-rig" but still... In Windows I could play the game in 720p with most settings on high (no AA or AF), with a pretty respectable framerate somewhere in the range of 30-60 (I was amazed of how well the engine performed on low-end graphics, only beaten by the source engine I think). In the Linux version however, the game is stuttering around at 10-15 frames on the lowest possible graphics settings (and resolution).

I think we can attribute a lot of this to the inferior graphics drivers that intel provides for Linux (they are still impressive, just not as good as those available for Windows). But I suspect that some of it is from the "teething" of the engine, which only just got Linux support (or at least within the last couple of months).

LGSO - Organize Your Game Saves

Yes, good initiative (but wouldn't symlinking just leave equally annoying symlinks in the same locations?). In any case I would like to contribute, so I have compiled a list of all my offending Steam games...

But I am simply not going to create 50+ issues on github... Perhaps emailing or pm'ing a list in your desired format would be preferable to everyone involved? (or an editable wiki as suggested)

Blade Symphony Sword Fighting Game To Come To Linux
12 Oct 2014 at 8:03 am UTC

Sorry for Zombie-posting, but the game just showed up in my Linux Library, I can install it, but it only has windows executables. I'm guessing that means that they have started working on the Linux version.

I bought the game in a flash sale a good while back. I have played it a bit on Windows, but not too much. However I can say that the game isn't a whole lot like either Overgrowth or Soul Calibur (except for having swords in them). It reminds me a lot more of the saber fights in Jedi Academy, without the force powers of course.

When I last played it (could have changed since then, it was still early days), the health system was still a bit too... FPS-like. No permanent damage like in Bushido Blade, or sudden bifurcations like in Jedi Academy, when your health ran out you just dropped to your knees and faded away... But hopefully this will/has changed.

My thoughts: It has potential to be a fun game, but at least for now I can think of a few older games doing the same thing better.
