Google announces another three games confirmed for Stadia

Quoting: BaronVonSuckonormally known for Linux support (iD).
id software don't support Linux, never have. You must be confusing them with something else. They previously released some unsupported binaries for old titles many years ago, plus some open source engines but they've never supported Linux proper.

Quoting: BaronVonSuckoI'm beginning to suspect Stadia has a "No Linux" clause written in an NDA or something. It's the only thing which makes sense of this.
I already answered this here. Market share + Google pays developers to port. There is no conspiracy or special clauses, outside of their exclusives/timed exclusives. It's the reality of being a niche platform.

Quoting: randylIf those studios are making Linux binaries for Stadia why aren't they publishing them to desktop users?
This same question seems to come up constantly - Market Share. We have 1% so most developers don't care. In the case of Stadia, it has Google's backing and Google are paying some developers to do it. I wouldn't be surprised if Stadia already had more users than Linux desktop gamers...

Quoting: randylSo far I'm not seeing Stadia benefiting the Linux desktop at all other than access to a game otherwise unplayable natively on Linux.
Well, it doesn't have to benefit the Linux desktop, it's just another option - one that's better it works than not working. More options are good.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleYa know, fixing wine so that it can run games better is hot and all, but what's also sexy is companies fixing their games to work better with wine. Example: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1217060 [External Link]
That is good news. I don't really care if a game is native or not, if it's a "true" port or uses some sort of wrapper. What counts is support from the developer.
This is the main point I try to get across to people - support and how developers treat you should be the biggest factors in buying decisions.

SkateBIRD gets a demo for Tokyo Game Show 2020 try it now

That seems like a typical AMD Mesa issue with Unity, I had no problems with NVIDIA. art of rally had a similar issue, which is fixed in the very latest Mesa drivers. This is also a quick demo of an unfinished game that's still some ways off remember.

Update: tested on an Intel laptop (so Mesa) and not seeing that issue. So it seems it is AMD specific.

Arch Conf 2020 confirmed for October, has a talk on the SteamOS-like GamerOS
24 Sep 2020 at 12:04 pm UTC Likes: 3

Quoting: mao_dze_dunThe problem is that this is tied to Steam. I'd love a more store agnostic experience - something like a big screen Lutris that can also work with Epic, Uplay, Origin (I think they are renaming that to EA Play) and GOG. Because, otherwise, what is the fundamental difference with setting Steam to start in Big Picture Mode at boot?
Just setting something to start at boot involves plenty of manual work behind the scenes to get everything setup, and to keep it working properly. GamerOS, like SteamOS, takes away all the manual work and just lets you focus on the games. That's the point.

One particular default I am happy to see adjusted is the shortcut for moving windows around to the Meta/Super key (also known as the 'Windows' key) + dragging instead of ALT + dragging. For gaming, it makes a big difference, as ALT is often used in games and Plasma ends up often overriding the game input and tries grabbing the window. Good defaults are needed to prevent frustration.
Interesting. I use Alt+drag all the time, but don't use a KB&M for gaming very often (Steam Controller). Meta+drag also works on my Plasma 5.18.5 (Neon) system.

I guess this is one of the few things that cannot be changed in the settings? I am curious if they will just kill Alt+drag or provide a new setting for it.
You can change it but this is about good defaults, because it's one of the most important things to have. We all love to customize, sure, but I would bet those of us who do or even know to do it are the minority.
