Quoting: suchOdd thing to say. To me it's very obvious that a reasonably deep turn-based roguelike with some whimsy and personality, AND cats is more popular than the thematic downer that is The Binding of Isaac or the tough as nails meat grinder of a precision platformer. The point is - nothing in game development is guaranteed. We've seen lots of games fail that many thought would be a clear success.
I guess it's possible to spend years dedicating your life to something unaware of what it is that you're actually doing?

Quoting: whizseHow matplotlib's attempt at moderating AI submissions went:I heard about this the other day, because Ars Technica then ran (and removed [External Link]) an article, which used AI which entirely made up quotes about it all.

Quoting: Jarmergame devs / communities go back to using forums hosted on their own sites. The issue with forums, is they may not be social media, but they're still in scope of things like the UK Online Safety Act. Everyone has to be a lot more careful now. We have various safeguards on ours now it's open again, but it's not entirely clear what's expected due to the laws being ridiculously wordy.

Quoting: ShaddycatSure, but we're not exactly talking about smaller self-hosted stuff, we're talking primarily about more public community stuff which is the target of all this.Quoting: Liam DaweIt doesn't really matter what alternatives there are - anything chat / social media will end up having to use these types of controls. Otherwise, they will end up getting blocked by various governments.I disagree. Self-hosted platforms are basically impossible to control in this way. I would like to see the government come for MY Mumble server. Libera already issued a statement saying that the odds of them requiring age verification is incredibly slim. And even if it did, somebody can just spin up a new IRC network that hasn't had the restriction imposed on it yet.
It doesn't have to be this way. The mistake is using centralized non-user owned platforms.

Quoting: pbSure, but that's nothing something average people do which this will all affect. Although, as with a lot of these laws, they do end up pushing people to alternatives to find workarounds. It will be a never-ending battle.Quoting: Liam DaweEven if it isn't yet, there's not much to stop governments forcing ISPs to block IRC servers. We've barely begun to see the effects of all this yet, it's going to expand.I'll just reconfigure my bouncer tyvm.

I don't think we will ever understand why some people do stupid annoying things like this. Some people to do just for kicks, because they can.

Quoting: Aaron SparksFascinating data for sure. I saw a different article by SteamDeckHQ that showed Stardew Valley at #1, but the data pull was dated January 4-February 2, as opposed to January 3-February 1.Yeah, the data will change based on when you grab it, as Valve's charts are always up to date, so ours is actually a bit more true to January since we grabbed it earlier.
As far as my preference through that time frame- Slots and Daggers, Dispatch, SilkSong, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2, and Deep Rock Survivor have all consumed my gaming time on deck and desk.
