Quoting: TcheyCurrent Beta is broken (no Play/Install button after entering the beta branch), but there is good hope they will fix the issue soon enough. If they don't, feel free to email me so I can chase them on it. It's what I'm here for :)

Early Access is still a release. To release something is to make it public. There's different forms of releases of course.

Quoting: devlandMisleading title. The game is not being "released". The early access campaign is being started and final product will differ greatly if it will even get finished.Just to also comment on this directly.
Please stop labeling early access campaigns as "releases".

Quoting: devlandI don't control what people post on reddit and the reddit post doesn't link to GOL. So take your beef up with them on that. There's a giant orange "EARLY ACCESS" tag on the main pageThe reddit post also has no tags, only the title which is very misleading.
Here's another way to look at the Linux market share on Steam

It doesn't sound too far-fetched either, considering all the Mesa work Valve has employed people to do. Although they previously mentioned a large part of that was to get VR in shape on Linux.

Quoting: MohandevirLooking at this:Well, if they came out with an AMD-based Steam Machine, it could end up being a fair bit cheaper than an Intel model and still perform really well. It also gives them an advantage there, with the open drivers that they can help shape and control updates closer.

Valve still cares and is still investing in Linux. They wouldn't bother with that otherwise.
Something will happen regarding this, I'm not going to put all my faith in that, but it smells like an AMD based Steam Machine or something similar is on the way... Maybe... Hopefully...
How I would like to see Valve release it's own Steam Machine (no third party involved) with only one or two hardware specs (like PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro) along with a complete SteamOS overhaul.

Quoting: teacoatIf you hold shift or the left trigger on a controller the camera follows the direction you are travelling in :)While true and it works to a point, it would be better if the camera always followed the direction you're pushing the stick in on gamepad. They already give you the ability to manually adjust the camera, so pulling the left trigger to reset the camera instead I feel would work a lot better. Since right now, you're generally holding down the left trigger all the time, it seems pointless. It's only a big issue on certain levels, where the platforming requires hard turns.
Here's another way to look at the Linux market share on Steam

However, this is a survey, not absolute numbers. The fact that Steam in the Asian market has risen so much, it makes it very difficult to judge the Linux numbers, because it's a very Windows-centric market driven by Windows only games. It doesn't mean people have left Linux, but that Windows on Steam has grown so much it has pushed the Linux percentage down. You can clearly see this on the chart comparing languages.
To be clear, other markets (like English) are also increasing all the time on Steam which will again push the Linux percentages down, especially when the game that's the most popular on Steam isn't on Linux and it's growing.
All explained the article. It's nowhere near as bad as people think.
You can't simply compare the previous percentage, to the current one, when all markets on Steam are growing. I think that's where a lot of the confusion and worry is coming from.

Quoting: skinnyrafThe truth is: Linux share is going down however you slice the pie. Yes, the total market share collapsed, but whether you look at all excluding Chinese or at English only, there is a consistent drop of 20% over the last year.Very true, something I mentioned on the article. However, see below. My reply also ties into this post:
20%.
Quoting: ageresSteamspy says there are 275 million active users on Steam. 0.27% is about 750 thousand. Maybe it's true that Linux users migrate to Windows? Before PUBG and China, there were 150m and 1% respectively, which gave us 1.5 million of Linux users. When you simply take the difference and use that to work out the Linux user-base on Steam, it may seem like it has declined. It has in terms of percentages of course.

Linux market share on Steam drops again as Steam continues to grow

English specific, would be be about 1.58%.

Quoting: hardpenguinRegular reminder that Linux share among users using English version of Steam client (biggest share after Simplified Chinese) is easy to calculate, and it's about 1,6%Interesting. Using that testing method then of: Non-Chinese Simplified (everything else) being about 35% of Steams overall market, the apparent current Linux share of 0.27%, we end up with a figure of: 0.77%.

Again, see my other reply with PC World as the example of why such things are important to be clear about.
I get this is a hot topic for some people, but it is important to highlight and look into the actual reasons behind change and understand them.

Quoting: subSorry, but I don't see the point always mentioning that the absolute number of Linux Steam users "still" grows. It sounds like saying "It's not that bad".I'll be honest, really struggled with replying to this. How can you not think that's important? It's extremely important to know when dealing with percentages if the overall number you're dealing with is bigger and where that change has come from. It would be a completely different story if the Linux percentage dropped as much as it has, without seeing the trends behind the percentages. That's the entire point of the article, to attempt to explain how it's not actually as bad as some people keep saying it is.
Again, see my other reply with PC World as the example of why such things are important to be clear about.
Quoting: subEven if some dev plans on absolute numbers, it wouldn't be clever from an economical point. As I said in the article "nothing has actually changed". This has always been the case and even if we went up to 2%, it would still be the case.
as every man hour spent to improve experience for the potentially 100 times larger user base is most likely far better spent.
I get this is a hot topic for some people, but it is important to highlight and look into the actual reasons behind change and understand them.
