Transport Fever released with day-1 Linux support, some thoughts
8 Nov 2016 at 7:56 pm UTC

I've been looking forward to this for a while. I loved Cities: Skylines and it got me hooked but I eventually got frustrated with some aspects in the end.
I've only played Transport Fever for about 90 minutes so far and it has been stable without any issues for me up to now. My ageing GTX670 is doing OK with the tutorials at least but I've yet to try a larger map or a busy game with lots going on.
For the record I have a i7 4790K and 32gb of ram.

I didn't know this game existed until your Twitter post Liam.
After watching a few videos I thought I'd buy it.
I'm happy to report it works very well. I only have one issue, which I can live with as it is only something faced on the main game menu screen where the planet is shown... The problem is that the planet is just a bright pink sphere (well circle because there is no shading).
The gameplay itself though has no problems at all. The framerate is good considering I have an ageing graphics card, it seems locked around 30 fps for me but I may need to play with the options to improve that - maybe I'll turn off anti-aliasing. I think the 30 fps lock may be because it's trying to do a vsync.

Here's the basics info on my system in case it helps someone decide to get the game:
Linux Mint 18
i7 4790K
32gb RAM
GTX670
Played at 1080p

You have no excuse not to own Company of Heroes 2 now, Humble Bundle Company of Heroes bundle is live

Bought the $10 bundle. Only problem encountered so far is that launching in fullscreen doesn't display anything. The game runs but it locks out the desktop (latest Mint Cinnamon). I can Alt-F4 to quit it. Windowed mode works fine. I managed to launch it once in full screen after restarting the game between windowed and fullscreen.
Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Spacious Skies... Spacious Sky... No Man's Sky... it's a pretty spacious game right? ;)
The bongo is just a red herring. :P
If NMS came to Linux I'd be in heaven. :D

... seriously though, no chance this is NMS.

Saints Row: The Third Linux port report, better than SR2, but still needs improvement

Quoting: Xpander
Quoting: Username already takenI'm pleased with SR3. It works well with a PS4 controller even though the prompts show Xbox buttons. The frame rate is solid 60 at medium settings 1080p on my system (vsync enabled):

i7 4790k, 32gb 2400Mhz ram, GTX670 with proprietory drivers, Mint 17.3 Cinnamon.
you seriously can't be happy to run it at medium (which makes the game look like sh**) with the hardware you have.
this game is old and i expect to run it 60+ 1080p on high or ultra settings with midrange GPUs and up
You're right, it would be nice to have decent framerates at higher settings. The last time I played the game was on PS3, which I think was 720p30 - now I'm seeing it at 1080p60 which is a nice improvement already. I'm easily pleased though and was glad it worked well after reading bad things about the SR2 port. Looking forward to future performance improvement updates for SR3 though.

It reminds me of Reassembly, especially with the wormhole.

What, no cockpit view? Can't alter suspension travel, toe-in...? No thanks... :D

GRID Autosport releasing for SteamOS & Linux on December 10th
3 Dec 2015 at 2:59 pm UTC

Good news that a decent racing game arrives on Linux at last. Bad timing for me though. I was holding out for Project Cars to arrive on Linux but gave up waiting so just a week ago I got my daughter to get it for me on PS4 instead as an Xmas present.
Oh well, I'll look out for a future sale of this and for Project Cars to come to Linux and re-buy if need be.
Also, I'd be interested to see if this game works with a Dualshock 4 as I haven't invested in a Steam Controller yet and don't currently have a steering wheel. Using a controller for driving games isn't too bad and surely must be better than using keyboard and mouse.
By the way Victor Vran is superb with a Dualshock 4 (with mouse for inventory management), despite showing the x-box AB/XY icons

GOL Asks: What have you been playing on Linux & SteamOS recently?

Nobody has mentioned Sublevel Zero, which is great. I bought it and do like it but I'm hoping for more fleshing out over time. It made me install Descent 2 Rebirth and it's great to play that again as there's more to it than Sublevel Zero.

KSP 1.0.4 due to too many broken mods in 1.0.5 for now. KSP is easily the most 'played' 'game' I own. Looking forward to 1.1 despite mod hell.

Nearly bought The Long Dark but I'll wait for a sale.

Civ 5 is calling to me to be played again.

Too many games and not enough time.
There's my PS4 too that also demands time. I wish I'd bought Mordor on Linux but got it on console first. Shame it happens that way for a lot of my collection.
