Fedora Linux devs discuss dropping 32-bit packages - potentially bad news for Steam gamers
26 Jun 2025 at 1:56 pm UTC Likes: 2

Omfg. This again. The problem with games and steam isn’t that the client it 32bit. (Actually is 64bit). But the games that are on steam are 32bit. Wine and proton are 64bit and 32bit. However a vast major of the games are not 64 bit only. A lot are 64/32 hybrids or just 32 bit because windows. Stop thinking of just 1 and 0. Didn’t we learn anything from the Ubuntu debacle? I moved to Manjaro after that.

PipeWire is the future for Linux audio and I am sold on it

You are not forced to use it? Ubuntu 22.10 will have pw installed by default instead of pa. Others will follow. I am not sold. I will admit my bias, but after working with red hat since late 90s... I would rather not have any more "improvements" from red hat. (Gnome, systemd, ifconfig removal, etc.) I haven't had a problem with pa in years now. They are just m$ of linux. And before you say it, i talked to rh almost daily for several years on various things.

Sorry Arch (EndeavourOS), it's not working out any more and hello Fedora

Quoting: GuestHow ironic,
Pipewire (apparently broken in Arch, which uses default upstream configs) has been created by Wim Taymans, Principal Engineer at Red Hat which in turns sponsors Fedora :)
Even more reason to avoid pipewire

Part of the problem is pipewire. Everyone says its the best thing since sliced bread. It is too immature a subsystem. I have not had a problem with pulseaudio for literally years now.

Good luck with fedora. I will never touch anything connected to red hat. They are just Microsoft of the linux world. and before you say i dont know what i am talking about or i never tried it, i ran it on ibm power, x86 for years... Only because i had to. I have hadany meetings with redhat both technical and corporate. I hate how they force shit down everyones throat (systemd, removing stuff from gnome (you do know they maintain gnome right) and apparently pipewire, etc.) Redhat was great back in the 90s when they cared.

I started running linux in 1996 after using aix, dec, tru-ux, irix and several others. I ran rh5 and Mandrake back then. I have been running manjaro for several years now and currently running the kde version. Makes a great gaming system. I have had very few issues. One may have been self inflicted when i Was on xfce. I was in Ubuntu and derivatives like mint for a long time until they decide noone needs 32 libs anymore and unilaterally removed them breaking a ton of stuff.. especially gaming. I found manjaro and have been happy ever since.

Valve rolls out the new Steam Library and Remote Play Together for everyone

Quoting: rustybroomhandleI know hating on new stuff is how we like to roll, but there are quite a few improvements.

- The list filters (Recent, Installed, etc) are now actually above the list itself, rather than just in the Library menu

- The game view is way more clean than it used to be before, when it had all those links down the right

- Managing collections also way better than before
I like change when it makes sense and improved things.. however this doesn't feel that way. What was they being to fix? Also the categories are meh for me. I have mine already sorted and have for years. The game view is way too busy.

I just want the option to have small mode. If you like the oversexed new look other fine, but i don't.

I hate it. Give me my small mode back and let it be an option. Also, why the 40pt fonts???? On my 28" 4k monitor, the letters are a quarter of an inch tall! Also the window is almost fill screen!

So excited about this. I have 689 games in steam... Out of those.. 539ish run great under either linux native or steam play. Out of what is left,. All but 11 has to have windows. I got fallout 4 working last night with mods.. just a bit slow for now. The rest are split between wine staging and crossover. So close to deleting windows, i can taste it. I wish i could figure out how to get Diablo III and other blizzard games working with it.
