Valve Rep Confirms Why Some Games Have Their SteamOS Icon Removed

Good guy Liam :)
Honestly, based on what I just read, Steam should re-introduce a penguin icon and a steamOS icon.
Penguin for the obvious gnu/linux and steamOS for saying, optimized for big picture/steam machine.

Ubuntu Developers Looking To Simplify Getting Latest Nvidia Graphics Drivers

I download the drivers from the nvidia site and the installation has been really easy.
After a fresh install you run the installation and it auto runs a script to blacklist nouveau. You reboot and then run the install again. Now everything installs fine. I usually throw another reboot to be 100% sure.

Voila, latest nvidia drivers

Opinion: Can Linux Be A Viable Gaming Platform? Thoughts From A Sympathetic Game Developer
7 Jul 2015 at 8:14 am UTC Likes: 1

I'm not an elitist/advanced Linux user but I must say that the latest games that have come out on Linux have been working fine on multiple distros. I myself run Ubuntu / variant and my cousin uses Arch - most of the games we purchased together and played together work fine. Latest game being ARK - ran for us both without any issues.

This is just to say that now that Steam Machines are coming up, mentality of people is changing, mentality of companies is changing - this is all causing for them to work together to make sure that developing on the Linux platform becomes easier and more unified. This said, I can see that maybe in a year, development for Linux will be a lot easier, less time consuming and more rewarding for game developers.

I am glad I made the switch to Linux, I am more than happy with the titles currently in my Steam library/DRM free list which all work fine. Gaming on Linux (oh I did that!) will never reach Windows levels, but I see the world changing and I can assure that in the future, games for Linux will net more than 1-3% of the sales.

offtopic: that said, I wonder what the % is for the ARK sales.

ARK: Survival Evolved Released For Linux, Here's An Early Look & Thoughts
2 Jul 2015 at 6:18 am UTC

I've been following the game for a bit now and I must say that the dev team behind ARK works so so hard. Bugs are reported and within a few days they are fixed.
I know why the linux version is a bit buggy... they made a promise to release it on the 25th, pushed the date back, pushed the date back again... did a random selection public testing and then HAD to release it since people were shouting and screaming.

Do note, the game is in early access and this is the first version of their linux alpha. How was Storms United when it first came out for linux?

I have no doubt in my mind that once the development stabilizes out - they will optimize the game so that it will run much nicer. This is also not related to the linux client as people on windows are also complaining about performance.

Even at 25-30 fps on medium the game is enjoyable
