Valve have made some big changes to the Steam Reviews system

Quoting: HoriAnd that's why they implemented the refund system, without questions asked for games recently bought and little play time. It's basically a demo for all steam titles.Quoting: tmtvlIt's a shame demo's aren't quite as prevalent as they once were, I kinda prefer those over reviews to find out whether or not to buy a game.So true! Demos are great if you want to get a "first person" impression of the game. Even if the reviews are accurate, everyone has different tastes, maybe it's the most positively acclaimed game on Steam and I still don't like it for some reason.
The most important thing it would be to test / benchmark the game. Many game nowadays release with serious compatibility issues, be them either software or hardware incompatibilities. Trying a demo will give you an answer as to whether the game will run on your system, thus not only spare you some wasted time, the stress and half the disappointment, but it would also reduce the number of refunds by quite substantially.
Currently the only way of answering those really good and noble questions, is to get a pirated copy of the game, which is not "noble" at all. It's ok if you buy the game afterwards but it's still a shady way of doing things, especially since there's Steam Refund to save your bucks in case the worst case happens and the game is a complete "garbage" for you.
Armello, the really fun strategy game has a new DLC with more characters

Armello sadly did not work with my Logitech F710 under Manjaro. Tried many, many things and no success. Developers did not move a limb to support me, so I had to refund the game. Such a pitty as it seemed like an awesome game to play with controller.
An EVE Online developer has built an unofficial Linux launcher, game uses Wine

So much hate. We don't need this. Brings nothing to the community. Make yourself a favor and read some self-helping books, get a partner, grab a bottle of wine with friends or anything but coming here to post this kind of thing.

Quoting: c3224Bullshit. If you hate Linux gaming and use Windows for it, why the hell are you even here? Why do you comment on such a thread?Quoting: ZeloxAnd how is this bad news ?Wine is bad news.
Quoting: ZeloxEve devs are porting there game to Linux, even if its not official it should be good news.It is not port, it is Wine bottle.
Quoting: Zelox...and I guess you only buy Linux games and play them in Linux. Keep doing that and we will see better support.I dont play games much latley, but when I play them it is exclusively on Windows? Why? They look better, they run better, there are bunch third-party game mods/apps/tweaking-tools etc. on Windows and 0(ZERO) on Linux. Steam runs better on Windows, Origin, battle.net, Epic, uPlay runs only on Windows, and when game devs put bunch of microtransactions, DLC & preorder exclusive stuff in game I like, it is much easier to Pirate it on Windows.
My definition of Linux support is game that runs on all distributions, uses OGL/Vulkan, runs x64 code and does not need multilib, same performance and quality as on Windows, no translators, no emulation, no wraping and other BS, and no one is doing that.
Quoting: ZeloxLinux has grown as a gaming platform very very quick...It will fall even faster, in 2-3 years when game streaming becomes casual gaming standard, Linux gaming will be dead; Wine bottles and eON wrapers will be replaced by remote servers, game clients will be web pages made in HTML/JS/CSS slow and full of bugs, you will be paying 3-4 different game streaming services 100$/mo, and of course ads, ads everywhere.
Also a lot of hype is in shi*y VR, VR needs highly optimized high performing code which does not exist on Linux.
Quoting: ZeloxAnd be careful cause u never know who will read these comments, we have devs on GoL at times.Let them read, they are bad and they should feel bad.
...it's one step closer to official support...Nope, EvE is declining in player base and this is cheap and easy way to get more money and players (http://jestertrek.com/eve/players/), short term of course, who would like to play EvE on Linux for long time when you need 4-5 .Net third-party Windows only applications to mange you character and plan traning, to save all ship builds, to trade etc., and no one can effectively multibox with slow Wine.
Look at Wine as Windows API implementation on *nix, if you support Wine you support Windows API, end of story! Im aware that playing games on Windows is bad and you should be aware that using Wine (or eON) is same sh*t.

Hey Liam
Good job. Looks amazing.
Maybe it's time to separate Manjaro from Arch? It's a spin off yeah but it is also a beast of its own right now (well ahead of Arch in distrowatch) . I'd guess maybe even more users than Arch itself. Otherwise, join Ubuntu and Debian again ;-)

RimWorld seems to be heading a similar direction as Dwarf Fortress in some senses. It's a VERY good game.
The handheld Linux computer Pyra is available for pre-order

It's not a gameboy, as those have no full backlit keyboards, no touch-screen, no wifi, no 4G, no full Linux OS (Debian), no constant community input during it's making for mostly every aspect of the gadget, etc etc...
The Pyra is a device to supply a very niche market, which would pay €700, not €1000 as you said, for such a thing. It's made in Germany, has full keyboard and Linux desktop OS, not Android, combined with dedicated gaming controls and an awesome community. Doesn't sound like a gameboy to me.
Actually, doesnt sound like anything (except maybe for the Open Pandora). So that's why it's pricey and aimed at a niche market.
Regarding gaming, the predecessor, which was more than 4 times less powerful, could play N64, PSX and DS games, as well as Linux ports / wraps of many PC games, such as Diablo, Star Ward Jedi Knight 2 and 3, Eldritch, Super Hexagon, Half Life, etc etc. I guess the Pyra will probably be capable of running Saturn, DC, GC, PSP games, as well as more demanding FOSS and newer PC games.
Regarding personal computing, I've used the Pandora very often to send emails on the road, watch my movies while flying (the battery lasted for 6+ hours of PLAYBACK, yeah), streaming other stuff from laptop to a projector, even some coding and penetration testing with aircrack-ng. So, if you are looking for a gameboy, the Pyra is not for ya :-)
I'd describe both OpenPandora and Pyra as the Swiss Knife of the devices.

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTUnfortunately this device is ways to expensive to be of any use. Too small to work and to expensive to game with it. A 1000 € Gameboy? Nice toy, but no, thanks man!I guess you are either trolling or you didn't understand the device.

I read the server coding is quite advanced though. The UI is also fully modifiable.
I just wish modern RPGs had the same 'outdated' skill, gathering and crafting systems of Ryzom. There is A LOT to be learned from this game.

Quoting: Julius[...] I guess it is mainly due to the fact that it is just sooo outdated by today's standards that improving it in your free-time seems like an uphill battle [...]Graphics, models, textures, shaders, etc. are outdated, I agree.

I quit because of RL changes but the game is truly deep and complex and engaging. The skill system is so unique I cry with little customization of other MMORPGs, where usually the 'Talents' are made as a way to customize skills. In Ryzom you CREATE skills in any way you want.
Want a magic bolt with ultra range and ultra hit rate, special effects? Will need to compile the skill with lot's of mana use, cast time, low damage, etc.
Fast close range blast spell, heavy hammer crushing hit, etc etc. You can do it all. No classes, so you can even mix that things to have a true hybrid character. That's why the very old players were so powerful. They mastered all schools of combat and gathering and crafting (gathering is divided by gathering in lakes, forest, deserts, jungles, etc...) and are just too powerful. But since there is almost no PvP, there is no direct competition. The focus is really PvE.

Quoting: AnxiousInfusionWould you say role play is the only way to truly enjoy this game? If most of the experience is based on crafting and exploring for drops, what is there to get from Ryzom that you couldn't get out of, say, Minetest?I played with moderate active role playing and it was a blast for some four months. Didn't play Minetest (am I missing much? ) Since many players are maxed out in everything or mostly everything (3+ years of play), they help newbies and are active in guild RP, which is why the community ROCKS. It's definitely a good experience for the sandboxer, maybe not for the younger crowd used to insta-reward and easy mode everything like in WoW retail.

This game has the best community ever, or at least had since I last played one year ago.
The gathering, crafting and skill system are VERY REALLY VERY much deep and complex. You can create any skill you want from compatible 'effects'. You add negative things such as mana cost and cast time, and add positive things like damage, conditional effects, hit rate, etc. Insane really, since you can create any skill.
Gathering is largely dependent on regions, seasons. Very deep vein searching. No equipment dropped from mobs. All is player crafted...
Also liam, the things you mentioned (bloom, FXAA, Depth of Field) were already in game for a few years. They are not new to this steam release (even on the native Linux client for at least one year we had those).
However, Ryzom is OLD. Many players have maxed absolutely everything (which should take 3 years of gameplay or more). This is the reason why I quit. There were new players, lowbies, people with alts leveling BUT there are also many with gear which is almost impossible to craft unless you play for yeeeeears (such as the golden sets).
The only second negative point about the game I think it's worth mentioning is that I felt very little mob variety. There were some 20 models of monsters only. They change in colour, shape, size, behaviour, texture, but still only those few models. The world is so rich in other things, however, that this was not a big issue for me. Maybe for younger players used to games with 20GB or more of data it could be.
The AI is insane as well. Mobs are seasonal, migrate, move in packs, etc.
Highly recommended. Take it with open mind. It's not a sandbox, but rather THE sandbox MMORPG. Only comparable to SWG in terms of depth.
