Quoting: STiATAnyone else having issues with the game?

I have the problem that the settings in game will not save, and huge performance issues on AMD with Vulkan and OpenGL (works ok in Wine). But wine somehow fails to capture the pointer when building, so I have to to tab out and in again to make it work.

Anyone got workarounds for those?
Only problem I have seems to be related to plugins (so it hangs a bit on start up) but I use nvidia.

Quoting: emphyIt seems fairly clear to me that this project's underlying management problems are what are the real cause of it failing, not any inherent difficulty in getting such a niche product in costumers' hands.
In my opinion Canonical should make a project like that, would be a perfect opportunity for them to push their snap packages in this "untapped market".
Personally, I think Valve is the one that should do it. The Steam Machines were a wonderful idea.

1) they failed as there wasn't a standard set up. Hard to do as games have a hige range of hardware requirements. There just needs to be "games for Steam Machine" icon.

2) the prices per spec were too expensive for most (because people don't understand that making PC hardware fir inside the embedded space IS expensive...)

3) a portable / dockable version like the Switch would have been AWESOME!

The problem with computer gaming overall is there are too many games that are simply unplayable without a mouse / keyboard, and Steam needed a better way to show that off. They have it now with the categories.

This, and also the ones from GPD.
I have a GPD Win2... and kind of hate it because of how loud the fans are.

Quoting: denyasisIt's always a little dad to see projects fail, but, perhaps it's me, but I did not, and still don't, understand the appeal of playing a pC game on a mobile device. It's mostly a screen size thing for me. Too small to really enjoy.
For me, it is more about the MASSIVE library of games that I have in Steam. Or emulation, etc. Being able to play those on the go is an appealing idea. But so was the idea of the Switch, but mine mostly just sits on its dock because I don't actually go anywhere...

VR is absolutely insane, I am officially a convert and it works mostly great on Linux

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI am kind of interested in VR . . . I'm mostly curious about the idea of boxing or swordplay games where you're, you know, pretty much really doing that stuff.

But the games I actually play now I'm not sure would really be changed much by VR. Like, I'm not sure Stellaris or Civilization would be a lot different in VR.
I'd love something like Black and White in VR. Pick up little dudes running around and flinging them across the room... that'd be amazing! Also a Star Wars game where you can force choke the shit out of Storm Troopers and drop them off ledges. :)

To celebrate one year, Half-Life: Alyx is the cheapest it's ever been

Quoting: jarhead_hCheapest it's ever been? Great. So just as soon as I can buy a 5900X & 6800XT to replace the 2600 & GTX1060 currently plugged into my X570, and then the Valve Index, I'll buy it. Oh, and that's AFTER I can afford to replace my Android phone with a Librem 5.

And all of than is after I have an income again. 2021 sucks.
This is actually incorrect, the cheapest it's ever been is 'Free!' as I got it for free with the purchase of my Index :) Basically if you bought an Index through Steam, they gave it to you :)

Also, if you're still running a 2600 from 1977 as your main gaming rig, kudos to you!
Nah, it's a Ryzen 2600. And the Asrock X570 mobo it was plugged into died. Luckily I had a B450 laying around waiting for the 2600 when the 5900X arrived. Now I don't have to build my old windows games box because it already is. Oh, wait the B450 is also an Asrock. Crap.
Just because I'm an Atari Nut, I think it'd be hilarious to take a Ryzen 2600 and put it into an Atari 2600 box-like box...

Quoting: nattydreadYes VR improves upon where 3DTV went wrong. It is actually the solution for 3D content.
And I am also keeping hold of my 3DTV.
It can't be far off until we have VR films that have the same quality to change your viewpoint in them like you can in the VR games.
I don't know about you, but I'd LOVE an interactive (maybe even multiplayer) version of Clue in VR...

Valheim gets a small patch with a large creature visual overhaul

This game does bring up an interesting problem. One of the mods we'd installed had some comments about it not working on Linux, and the author of the mod wasn't even aware that the game is available for Linux, and I wonder how common that is. Most of the mods are of course hosted on Nexus mods, which neither the nexus mod manager nor Vortex have Linux native versions. Vortex at the very least is open sourced, so if we could get a coder to poke around and help port it (and maybe the sub-program Loot can be ported / recreated) that'd be amazing, and then maybe we could get it to support proton base games.

Though maybe it'd be cooler if we could get Lutris to support mod management or something. Seems to me a universal game launcher should have such a capability. :) Yeah yeah, I know, I should just learn to code and do it my damn self. :P

and then have a frigging troll flash its butt at you from the coast.
I fully enjoy shooting them in the butt, and then stealing their skin so I can wear it. I only wish they'd add a Troll Hide rug :P
