I keep buying Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II expansions even though I barely have time to play either game right now. I keep thinking that I want the games to be as complete as possible when I finally do have the time to really play them. That and I feel the need to reward Paradox for being such a consistent supporter of Linux. Is that silly or what?

Well, today I finally got a Steam survey in Linux, two-years after first installing Steam in Kubuntu.

I read somewhere that when you include Android, servers, embedded operating systems, etc., Linux is by far the most used OS in the world. It's just on the desktop where it has always struggled to get a foothold.

Quoting: sarmadWhy do so many people think that the survey appears more on Windows than Linux? If it's appearing more on Windows than Linux with you that just means you are using Steam under Windows more than you do under Linux.Wrong. I use Linux the vast majority of the time, but it seems like every time I boot into Windows after months of not using it, I get a Steam survey. Is that what triggers it? The fact that I so rarely boot up Windows these days?

Quoting: dubigrasuNow, from what I know Linux users tend to keep their systems running and rarely do total re-installs, they just fix what's broken and keep going (Steam Client included in this). This is the difference between an open operating system and a closed operating system. Sometimes you have to reinstall Windows to fix it because the options available to the user are extremely limited.
OTOH Windows users are more inclined to re-install their systems...at least at my workplace (and seen it on my friends too) the most common solution for every problem is "re-install Windows" (and again, Steam included).

I still don't trust the survey. I can go months without booting Windows and never get a survey request in Linux. Then I boot up Windows, and *BAM* there's the Steam survey. It has happened consistently enough that I'm beginning to think there's a bug in Steam for Linux that is preventing the survey from working like it should.

Quoting: AryvandaarThe fact that they aren't calling it Steam Linux is a testament to them not caring one bit for Linux as a whole. So the fact that the Ubuntu and Debian home pages don't say one word about Linux means that they don't care about Linux as a whole?

Quoting: EikeThey are basically betting parts of their "corporate identity" on SteamOS.You're right. Valve is only one of the most successful companies in the gaming industry. I'm sure they don't know what they're doing.
Unfortunataly I'm not sure if this company is totally aware of that.
