Quoting: ArdjeTechnically amdgpu only officially supports GCN 1.2(R9 Fury) and up however there is experimental support for GCN 1.0(HD 7000) and 1.1(RX 200, RX 300). One of my friends has an R9 390 and amdgpu works great for him so I would think an R9 270 would be fine as well since they're both GCN 1.1. I've also heard radeon performance isn't bad although I've never personally used it.Quoting: ScooptaHe has a core i7-920, that's 2009 calling.Quoting: loggeHaha, now Nvidia gets their parts of being closed-source only! What a day!I'm not sure what exactly you were trying to say but it sounds sort of like a dig on Nvidia yet you have an nvidia card?
And an nvidia gtx 1060? How would that work?
@logge: I really want to know, because I have an 920 too. Still with 6GB, but the CPU seems faster than the i5 in my steam machine (with unfortunately an Nvidia card).
I wonder if an R9-270 would be able to run new drivers.

Quoting: ShmerlYeah I got the part about Nvidia being reported as AMD but that won't affect steam stats at all? Steam will still see the card correctly. It'll just lie to Windows games.Quoting: ScooptaNvidia cards are reported as AMD cards now, so Nvidia usage will plummet in Steam stats. Thanks to Nvidia pushing their lock-in APIs.Quoting: loggeHaha, now Nvidia gets their parts of being closed-source only! Quoting: liamdaweAlright, fair enough.Quoting: ScooptaI rarely make a big deal out of Steam's DRM and in this case it wasn't specifically about Steam's DRM. It was mentioned, sure, but only because this happened on Steam. The main point is that it's a reminder on how stuff can be taken away.Quoting: liamdaweI understand the point but at the same time I think people make a bigger deal out of Steam's DRM than it actually is. Hell depending on the game there are even extremely trivial ways around it.Quoting: ScooptaLiam you mention DRM free games as if they don't exist on steam. People seem to misunderstand. Just because a game is on steam doesn't mean it's DRMed and it doesn't mean you can't back it up. Steam does provide OPTIONAL DRM that a Dev must deliberately choose to use. There are actually a good number of games in my steam library that are not DRMed at all. An easy way to test is to run the game manually and see if it sets your steam status to in game. Even some games that do that don't actually require steam to be present so the most accurate way of testing would be to close steam and then try to run the game.Sure, but plenty of Steam games have some form of Steam integration. I'm sure you understood my wider point.

I wish people would realize that the Steam storefront and Steam DRM are two completely different and semi-unrelated things. The Steam DRM requires your game be published on the Steam store in order to work. The Steam store requires no such thing in return though.

Quoting: HoriI couldn't find anything official but I know someone from valve told Liam they counted as Linux sales and he mentioned it in the original announcement article. https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/valve-officially-confirm-a-new-version-of-steam-play-which-includes-a-modified-version-of-wine.12400Quoting: GuestAll I could find was "Steam Play whitelisted games will not be offered for purchase or marked as supported on Linux on the Store during the initial Beta period." in the initial announcement - which to me it only says about the icon's appearance but not whether it counts as a Linux sale or not.Quoting: elmapulso...If it is the case, it is a pity
they ignored our list
https://spcr.netlify.com/needs-testing [External Link]
and they are going with steamdb list instead?
Quoting: HoriQuestion: Does buying them now count as a Linux or Windows sale? They explicitly said it counted as a Linux sale. :)
They don't have the Linux icon yet.
Is there any other place where they discussed about this?
I want to buy Guacamelle 2, having had loved the first one, but I want to make absolutely sure it counts as a Linux sale (because I still didn't forgive the devs/publishers for what they did with the super-turbo-championship edition)

Quoting: Sir_DiealotSo that's a whooping 41 titles now, 1/3 of which is Sam & Max. How many of those don't run in stock WINE? How many of those are platinum or Gold on https://appdb.winehq.org/ [External Link] anyway?I think you're missing the point. The point is that people don't have to deal with wine not that the games didn't run in wine before.

Quoting: scaineSounds like someone could be contributing to Wine and fix the Wayland issues that other devs appear to have given up on! :DI actually really hope so. I personally don't have any bugs with wine in XWayland but I tend to put myself on the bleeding edge. Currently outside of Steam and my steam games 100% of the software I use is Wayland native and so I'd love to see wine work natively in Wayland. That'd at least address the few games I play with proton. Then it's just steam itself and all my native games. Some will probably never support it but one can dream.
