As far as I understand, both projects were personal ones at the beginning. Eventually they became developed enough to go public. Also, AMD people had some delay with the decision-making people because of vacation. They also believed Andres knew about it from some e-mails. Seems like he missed it.

AMD also announced their open source debug tool, soon to be published. Both sides worked independently, not knowing about each other. Hopefully there can be constructive discussion or perhaps joint efforts.

Quoting: meggermanBattleblock theater not launching on AMDGPU-Pro or AMDGPU. Linux Mint 18.Just a reminder. On Mint you should also let the system update its kernels (which they officially not really recommend), cause there were a lot of fixes for the radeon and amdgpu driver.
void* memory block::Alloc(unsigned int): (! Assertion `got request for zero bytes!" ) failed.
Aborted.

When the Steam OS project was announced, I was really hyped about it and that Valve will create a great gaming OS. Sadly, that didn't happen. I cannot argue with the facts, that Valve pushed Linux gaming to new heights and took part in creating Vulkan, but throughout the years, Steam OS itself seemed more and more like a garage-project, with only a handful of people working on it, just to barely sustain it. Looking back, it feels like at the beginning, they didn't even have any idea, how the state of drivers and other components were on Linux. Nowadays, you can easily get a distribution with superior performance and better hardware support, you don't even need a rolling one for that. So although I am thankful for everything else they had done, but feel that the Steam OS project was left in the dust and will slowly be buried, without anyone remembering it.

We are definitely targeting Linux support. It’s a significant priority because we want to achieve dedicated server supportI just hope they know the difference between server and client version development.

From what I heard, without DAL, there is no Freesync. And although some people hope, it is still not clear whether DAL will arrive for the 4.11 kernel. So I am not sure what we are seeing on this presentation or more precisely, when it will happen.
DC is also supposed to be bringing AMDGPU to GCN GPUS's offcial, instead of through experimental support.Experimental AMDGPU support for GCN 1.0 and 1.1 are not closely related to DC (DAL), as far as I know. It is experimental because there are still some issues and worse performance in some cases.

Yes! Been waiting for this patch.
This game was worthy for me to buy, despite being Early Access. The devs are really great people.

Ubuntu LTS versions offer kernel and Mesa updates a few months after a new distribution. For 16.04 this means kernel 4.8 and Mesa 12 early next year. You can also use ppa-s, like oibaf's one, which have more bleeding edge Mesa versions.

I bought this game while it was still in Early Access, maybe about a year ago. At that time it felt promising and although there were some bugs, I enjoyed it to a certain degree. Sadly, it feels like things slowed down and eventually died in development, like it was finished just to be able to say, it is finished.
As for the story, there was something about the bugs coming from underground and eventually meet with the humans on the surface, but this will probably not happen, at least not in this game.
