They talked about their non-crossplatform middleware [External Link], so I suspect it will be an eON port. Not that it's bad or anything but it matters for some.

While I only have a common 2.1 audio, this is a valid point. Also would be interesting to know the subsystem/engine/whatever used to output the sound, whether it's pure ALSA or PulseAudio or maybe OSS. As an additional question I'd add something like "do you have issues with it?" with checkboxes like "skips/noises/crackles", "some games don't use all channels I have", "some games don't output sound at all out of the box" etc.
For example, I had a weird bug with my Creative Live 7.1 24 bit, in Transistor all the sound was 2 times faster than it should. I thought cartoon voices are intended but then started to doubt and asked friends. Surprisingly, I was wrong. I fixed it by switching default-sample-format = s32le in daemon.conf (PulseAudio), never had this with any games before and after. I also didn't have this issue on the integrated Intel HD audio, only on the PCI one. That's an example of what may go wrong with the audio apart from some channels not working.

Nvidia release another new Vulkan beta driver with Linux support

Quoting: srlsboyActually, 1.17 may work as well. Debian has 1.18 in testing, which I use, and 1.16 in stable. It's safe to try for yourself, if ABI isn't compatible you'll see an appropriate message in the Xorg log and it won't start. There's also an option to add -ignoreABI parameter (as said in that exact error message) and it works, but then Xorg crashes on the game start.I have to downgrade Xorg to 1.161.16 !? I don't think I'll try these beta drivers for awhile.

The only thing I want is moving Vulkan to the main branch. 35x.xx branches have issues with Steam, it crashes on adding a category for a game [External Link] and some other action (sometimes just on checking notifications), also NS2 crashes randomly with it while on 361.xx both the game and Steam are rock-solid. Moreover, 35x.xx rely on older Xorg ABI so I have to downgrade Xorg to 1.16. Too much hassle for testing it.

Sounds like an RPG stat and the moment it's maxed out you get a free pet penguin.

Quoting: PicoboomIf they don't get it out day one, I'll forgive 'em. Deep Silver has more than enough Linux Good Karma points to balance it out.I'd call it Loyalty Points. Linux Loyalty Points, LLP.

Steam Client Beta updated, fixes issues with lots of games on newer distributions

ALSA update is good, NS2 had no sound since some build so I had to symlink my system libasound2.so there. Heard the same happened on Arch but Ubuntu was fine.
For me Dying Light was fine, no crashes or anything aside from the blurry textures issue that was fixed. Maybe it's not a good idea to play on Steam Beta if you want the best experience. It's called Beta for a reason and I also vaguely remember some troubles with it.

How SteamOS could become a better console competitor

One exclusive is a good thing if it motivates to buy the platform. There should be a tangible motivation factor to buy a Steam Machine. For some it's a nice living room gadget but that's not enough to turn the tides. As was mentioned before, XBox/PS have an exclusive title that sells the platform, after that people would need more titles to run on the console (or else why have they bought it for?), hence the demand grows. Same for Steam Machines, one title to motivate, more titles to hold. What are the downsides?

Quoting: Segata SanshiroI have a question. Why is "impact" the font of choice for almost all these simulator games despite being made by different developers?Because Impact is a meme font and "simulators" is a Steam meme. You know, "walking simulator", "rock simulator", "tea party simulator" etc. Or am I digging too deep? -_-

Yep, seems to be Unity [External Link]. Looks pretty high-fidelity.

Sure, but first I'd like to know the state of the game on Windows at least. The overall quality, amount of content etc. If it sells well and has positive reviews, it's only natural to start pushing the demand of Linux version. Also, interesting to know the engine they're using. I suspect Unity but who knows, it could be even UE4. Facial animation is way too fluent for Unity (or I haven't seen such quality among Unity titles yet).
