I'm on ArchLinux x86_64, last linux kernel 4.4rc5, mesa-git 1.2.0 and llvm-svn 3.8.0, AMD r9 390x, forced power_dpm_state to "performance" and power_dpm_force_performance_level to "high" (it's a workaround to make the card work properly using the open source drivers)
I know my system it's probably the most unsupported of all, but i wanted to try it out anyway.
On the first try, the game was freezing ad start, showing just the logo.
Solved it this way:
sudo pacman -S sdl2 sdl2_imageinstalled sdl2 and sdl2_image)
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/librtmp.so.1 /usr/lib/librtmp.so.0 (it appears on my system i had librtmp.so.1 but not librtmp.so.0 required by the game, so i made a symbolic link)
I then added "LANG=C %command%" to Steam's launch options (on steam, not on the launcher)
Well... The game is running at around 30 fps on 2k resolution (2560x1440), maxed out.
Not much for a so powerful gpu, but pretty impressive considering it's running a not officially supported game, on Linux, using the open source AMD drivers.

SMACH Z, the portable AMD Steam Machine is on Kickstarter

AMD is also investing on the open source stack, so... they could indeed turn to be the best choice in the future.
And... probably that's not what most of the backers are looking for, but i backed this console for small indie games, not for AAA titles. And for those games the current drivers are already enough.

Quoting: KeyrockAt this point, open source drivers might be a better bet.Why not? Nobody said the device will use propetary or open drivers. They will probably use the best choice when their console will be released.

I just love the idea, and i've also already backed the broject on kickstarter, but it seems that it isn't just taking off as it should.
Because... they managed to get around 100.000€ quite fast, but then it seems there are really few people backing the project now.
Maybe it wasn't enough advertized, or maybe people aren't convinced by SteamOS enought to get one.
Actually i'm getting one not for AAA games, but for indies and emulation. And Linux is already great for both of them. Even with the AMD drivers we have right now.

Quoting: XaeroVincentThe SMACH Z is impressive hardware but I agree that the AMD GPU technology might be disapointing due to the trash Linux Catalyst/Crimson drivers that SteamOS uses by default. RadeonSI is shaping to be much faster for OpenGL 4 games than Crimson but while SteamOS's Mesa and FOSS GPU driver stack is newer than Debian Jessie Stable, it isn't updated frequently enough to take advantage of the latest advancements to RadeonSI.The console is coming out in end 2016 if the kickstarter campaing will be successful, so i'm pretty sure the drivers will be much better.

I'm not sure if Unity supports 64bit ARM, but i should be pretty fine anyway.

Quoting: BelarriusI'm a OnePlus2 user, i shouldn't have such problems... i'll let you know soon.Quoting: IperpidoWell, i was already considering to try it... i see it has also an Android version, i was just looking for something to play while outside.I recommand you to have a smartphone with 3GB RAM and a GPU with 120 GFLOPS power... Because my smartphone have 2GB RAM, and the game use all of my ram (the load is very long because i'm out of ram) and my GPU have 60 GFLOPS and i have 5-10fps with 120+ player on same zone. I think the double power for GPU is good :p

Victor Vran Action RPG Now Available DRM Free For Linux On GOG
25 Sep 2015 at 9:35 am UTC
Using GoG Galaxy solves the issue, but since it's not available yet for Linux...
Well, i solved using a proxy (... it's the TOR network, actually). Of course it's slow like hell, but at least i can download it.
Anyway, GoG needs to change it's IP-Based download system, since not all users can use a proxy as a workaround.
