I played Guardian of Light and was a good game (I didnt finished though) there was some small bugs but was very funny and playable in local and online coop. But by the comments in Steam seems like this one is more bug than a game...
Still I'll try it. If it's a mess I'll go to a refund.

All these plattforms are selling steam keys.
So, be sure to activate the keys from a Linux OS and play the first hours of the games in a Linux OS.
Mainly that.

A few points about all this...
1.- I'm relatively new in the linux world. 4 years ago I was a Windows man only but I started to switch my work systems due to the way Win8 was going to be, and with Win10 the time gives me the reason. Only a year after that I was planning to release my PC shop building and selling (windows only) gaming & multimedia PC's on my own. Few weeks later Valve announced Steam Machines and here I am. And here we are!. When I look back and see all we have advanced in such a short time it's simply amazing. Now we sell Linux gaming PC's too. Few ones, it's true, but we believe in the product, and are passionate guys. We love what we make so we will be here for a long time I hope.
2.- Yes, Valve is a company that handles communication a little bit special. The first time Valve announced the Steam Machines we couldn't believe. It was the product we were dreaming! so we contacted them but for some reason (I think by the relatively early state of SteamOS, and the need of big companies in to the proyect to have more marketing) they locked the SM certifications to big companies. Some of them have abandoned the proyect and others are not pushing & advertising the product all they should (it's a very little market and have poor revenues), but I'm sure there are a lot of small companies that are waiting the oportunity to develop and sell a Steam Machine. It's only a question of Valve time. (I think they are waiting to have a more polished system and more AAA games to open the certifications)
I'm sure that we will have some news about Steam Machines in the next months.
3.- I'm sure Valve are still pushing SteamOS because Microsoft is still pushing their market walled garden. Yes, MS have lowered the wall a little but still is an attempt to lock the market to their system. The new way MS are pushing the developers to release all their upcoming new XBox exclusive titles into their Windows market only is the sign that they are still trying to create an exclusivity within their own system. It's a question of time and Valve knows it. I'm not sure what Valve are going to do in the future about this, but I doubt that they are facing and see what happens...
