What makes you say that? What about it makes it too late?
It's been years...
And? Doesn’t really answer the question. It’s here now. Why is it too late? Too late for what?
To care. To matter.

They finally got off their but. Well, I'm not buying it...

Valve amended the Steam survey for December 2025 - Linux actually hit another all-time high

Don't really care about the stats.

I am excited for when Steam survey pops out... I have a surprise for them. Finally got my hands on 5950x!
The GPU is old as fuck but who cares about this things? Most of the time when I game (which happens more and more rare this days) I lean towards playing CS 1.6... xD

At this point I do not care. They better fix CS 1.6 fuck up. They keep breaking it out of the blue after years of neglect...

Ubisoft just broke their games on Linux desktop and Steam Deck

WINE is the feature. Or so they said.
It's apparent to me that it's more like: whine. If you are gamer that is...

By the way i'll throw some ideas out there in the wild:
1. an open-source game fund organization must exist:
- main task is to collect donations/funds
- have committee (or whatever) that review funding requests for open-source games
2. crowd funded linux game porting...
- we as community must unite and crowdfund anything worth porting

GOG have their absolutely huge Spring Sale live now

@tuubi @scaine We are only guessing here. The truth is Feral never really told us why they are Steam-exclusive. The only thing I could get from them is that GOG was not a viable option for them. https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/8axa70/rise_of_the_tomb_raider_coming_to_linux_this_month/dx2decr/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 [External Link]

I believe having per OS publisher is something that GOG (and any other store for that matter) would do if there was interest for it.

Quoting: scaineHonestly, it's weird that you painted in them in that light? Do you have history against them, some minor grudge?
But it’s strange that you never read about Feral love for DRM, it seems to be common knowledge in most Linux-centric gaming communities.
It might just be conjecture based on the fact that they never sold their games outside of Steam. DRM might be a reason, but other plausible ones are publishing agreements with the IP owners, Steam being able to account for different publishers for different target platforms, and Steam reaching the largest audience by far.

Unless they tell us, we can only guess. But it does suck for those Linux gamers who avoid Steam. You might not be interested in the games, but I bought and enjoyed several of them.
Being on Steam does not require them to use Steam's DRM. Actually planty of games do not use Steam's DRM. They can be started fine with no steam client running.

What we expect to come from Valve to help Linux gaming in 2021

Quoting: sbolokanovHow did Steam get to where it is now? By exclusive games.
How did console X get to where it is now? By exclusive games.

The idea that user X is going to simply ditch his OS for no apparent reason is ridiculous to me.
Well, releasing exclusive games would be a much better option once they can point to an usb stick stick solution that doesn't alter the system, wouldn't it? This might be especially interesting if they plan to put pressure on apple.
*cough cough* Linux live USB sticks exists for I don't really recall how many years now.

Many have said it already: People use Windows. People are fine with using Windows. In fact it's probably perfect for their needs.
And from a gamers perspective - they have all PC games + actual support.

What we need is better performance, better APIs and better software in general.
What we need is more companies that actually support our platform, not just grab extra cash for no effort at all.
