The open source fantasy turn-based strategy game 'Battle for Wesnoth' is now on Steam

I've tried this a few times and always ended with me realizing how I suck at it.

Even save-scumming does not help my most precious units survive. Forget about leveling up new ones. *shrugs*

Stardew Valley multiplayer beta is now available

Quoting: GuestShitty GOG galaxy that’s required for multiplayer… that’s so stupid :(. Why can’t they provide a lib for multiplayer? It makes no sense that they force a download client for multiplayer.
I find it ironic for a supposedly DRM-free store that supposedly supports linux.

how is the game like, though?

We’ve teamed up with GOG for the Ubuntu 18.04 release, we have some keys to give away

I might like DRM games and I might like that GOG supports Ubuntu 18.04 but they don't though, really, do they?

Where is Galaxy again?

Thanks but no thanks. I'll pass.

Quoting: minjWhat is a session, anyway? HTTP is a state-less protocol. You get a session by saving a session identifier in a... session cookie.
You're getting stuck on the terminology. The session doesn't need to include any identifiable private data. Just a randomly generated session id and a variable that tells the service not to store cookies on the user's system.
Cookie is a cookie is a cookie, otherwise why would every random site bother you about it on your first visit ever?

Is there really a rule that says that choice needs to be remembered beyond the session? I don't think so.

Quoting: minjThe (cookie) technology is not the problem, third-party tracking is. But since the law-makers are clueless as ever, they are now wielding the proverbial hammer on the little guy. The big ones will find a different way, any way.
It does limit what the "little guy" can do with visitors' private data, but why is that a problem?
Well, I haven't read the legalese of this, but the public advisory materials I've seen indicate that it needs to be remembered. What is a session, anyway? HTTP is a state-less protocol. You get a session by saving a session identifier in a... session cookie.

My point is, cookies are not private data and their regulation should not have been included in GDPR.

Neither is IP address, imho.

GDPR is not only about limiting data usage either. You have to provide means to a) delete everything; b) export everything in a reusable format. This entails additional development costs that only the likes of GAFA should incur, imho.

@Liamdawe youtube embeds are now gone from RSS it seems. Was this intended or just a problem with parsing youtube-nocookie domain?

RE GPDR: I applaud what it's trying to accomplish but the way it goes about it is backwards as usual.

Thirst of all, this is a huge burden for small companies, as if they did not have other problems to deal with in this market. This should be enforced for BigData-only but I won't pretended to know how to do that just now, IANAL.

Youtube example is enlightening. Third-parties (i.e. Youtube) should be the ones to ask permission for data collection and not deny any services (e.g. showing videos), not you, the little guy. You are not managing that data, why is that your responsibility?

Right to be forgotten is a delusion. The Internet (just like the North) remembers. What about distributed systems, what about https://web.archive.org/ [External Link]? I don't know about you but I'd like to have a right to see what web looked like 2 years ago.

---

And last, but not least, there is the cookie harassment. Prompt fatigue, anyone? People are pressing "I agree" on every single EULA they find on the netz, you think this is gonna be any different? Better yet, https://www.i-dont-care-about-cookies.eu/ [External Link]

Let's dig into this a little deeper. You must allow the user deny cookies in that prompt, and must needs to remember that choice. Seeing a contradiction, anyone?

By going for the low-hanging fruit (cookies) they are now encouraging more "advanced" technologies like localstorage or various web database implementations, flash (why U no dead yet?) "super" cookies, HSTS tracking[1] and who knows what else the smarties devised since I was last following this space.

The (cookie) technology is not the problem, third-party tracking is. But since the law-makers are clueless as ever, they are now wielding the proverbial hammer on the little guy. The big ones will find a different way, any way.

AMD's first Ryzen Desktop APUs with Vega graphics are now available

Quoting: eridanired123I'm waiting for AMD to release Ryzen for laptops before buying a new one, is it known if a launch date has been defined yet?
There are already a few raven ridge laptops for sale with the 2500U/2700U. Many more are coming soon.

HP [External Link]

Acer [External Link]

Acer 2700U + RX 560 [External Link]

Lenovo is coming out with a model soon too, but I hear that might be single channel ram.
That's quite right and the whole line-up is disappointing.

EDIT: AMD APUs are ideal for lower-end Steam machines, aren't they?

7nm+ or 7nm-? :)

I can't seem to find many laptops shipping with Ryzen APUs. HP Envy was the first and now Acer Swift 3. Don't find these appetizing.
