remember I am on an Nvidia 970 so your performance will vary.
I am seeing this sentence here all the time these days and I can't fathom why. This does not seem like useful information to me.
IIRC you also have a 560 at your disposal? Please consider testing it whenever you have an urge to talk performance.

AMD Radeon Software Crimson Driver Announced, Completely Redesigned From The Ground Up

No, definitely not April 1st.

As an NVIDIA user, I have to ask, why should I care how some settings panel looks if I can't play games with that driver*? There's some sarcastic comment to be put here but I'll pass in an effort not to offend anyone.

* my ignorance is not intentionally malicious, no trolling
The Radeon Software is the new Interface for the Vulkandriver from AMD.
Alright, then I will instead be eagerly waiting for news of that driver being released any day now?..
The problem is, that driver won't help with the current games, will it?

Even Alt+SysRq may not help during a proper hard-lock :/
You and I obviously have different views on what a hard-lock is. If it locks my entire session, forcing me to another, and then having to reboot as it just screwed up everything, I think it falls within it personally.
Yes, hard-lock forces you to reboot, we agree on that much. But that's just it: you didn't have to, at least the way you describe it. Only thing you need to do in your scenario is to kill/restart Xorg. Hence it's a soft-lock.

Anyway, sorry for off-topic.

Well duh. You either pay little for a device and a lot for games or you pay more for a device (including upgrades) and less for games.

http://www.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/PS4_vs._Xbox_One_Native_Resolutions_and_Framerates [External Link] is not that impressive either.
Frame rates being unstable is a definite problem though and this is where devs/porters and vendors need some ass-kicking. Hopefully Vulkan will help with that in the future.

Alright, probably not.

Why developing games on Linux is awesome? Because why would you reboot/change your machine for it if you are already doing everything else on Linux?

If the question is why boot linux at all, the answer is easy: you can learn how things work and customize anything and everything because duh it's OSS.
