I hope there comes a day when Firaxis games are developed for Linux rather than ported, much less by an external studio.

Quoting: CheesenessI'm not sure that holds much water when there are still significant numbers of Windows users (even in the Steam survey which is biased towards gaming oriented users) who're running 32 bit operating systems - maybe even more than there are 32 bit Linux users. It seems very much that there's something bigger at work than one distro's recommendation.I was talking about Linux only. Sorry for not pointing that out.

I started using Linux ~2007 and researched the architecture question right from the start (I am someone who always says no to 'recommended settings'). Even back then most people said 64bit is fine so I have been using it ever since without any major issues.
Come 2012, and ubuntu.com still showed 12.04LTS 32bit as recommended. LOL
By the way, surely there more games that are 64bit-only. I am not one to keep lists, but Planetary Annihilation is an easy example to point to.

Quoting: wleoncioThat's the thing, Canonical is in part to blame for the slow decline of 32bit.Quoting: DrMcCoyAlso: I'm actually shocked that there's still so many people running full 32-bit installs. I had thought that pretty much died out around the time I got a 64-bit system...Think about people like me, who back in 2010 wanted a stable Linux system, went to www.ubuntu.com, read "we recommend the 32-bit version", installed it and had just been updating that same machine since then.

It is said steam has 75M users, right?
Considering 7M units of PS4 have been sold in 6 months since release (with 1M pre-orders) SteamOS might double (1.5M units?) in hardware survey in the first month or two?
While their illusions of grandeur translate to at least 30M? pre-orders. Crack it is. Or more like over-hyping to increase their own sales since they will definitely be a flop. They run Windows and use 360 controller, why would anyone order from them?
Worst thing yet, their flop will establish a negative mind-sight for vendors going for the real thing. I'm shocked Valve does not put an end to their 'steam machine'.

Interesting stuff, has anyone else seen any insider info on how Steam detects platform of sale before this?

Ah...EXCELLENT question!http://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/27ssw5/introducing_sid_meiers_civilization_v_for_steamos/ci4460q [External Link]
If you purchase on the Linux client, Aspyr would get credit for the sale immediately BUT Steam is smart, so once your buddy plays on Windows the system knows that user is really a PC customer and gives the credit back over to the fine folks at 2K. Sometimes there is a grey area where we split the revenue up but that is pretty rare. Its really a pretty smart system.

Holy ****!!!
I had an inkling feeling they would release after the sale is over, but they didn't :O
I am not dual-booting for a long time so had no chance to try it. Insta-buy.

Apparently Disconnect and Ghostery block those ads as well. I've had AdBlock disabled for a long time and kept wondering where those ads you are talking about are :D
So yeah, I suggest adding those to the list alongside AdBlock...
