Looks like Easy Anti-Cheat strikes again with Steam Play, Paladins is no longer playable on Linux

The real problem here is that Easy Anti-Cheat on Windows is working through a kernel module. Kamu can't port that module to Linux because of the GPL license which would force them to provide the source code. As of now, when EAC detects Wine, a stub module is downloaded instead of the normal one.

Quoting: Code Artisani am surprised that easyanticheat does support Linux since it needs to operate at the kernel level.
Just because the windows version runs in kernel space means nothing for the Linux version.
By enforcing open-source through GPLv2, Linux makes anti-cheats impossible to be effective. You will never see something like ESEA on linux.

Epic Games have confirmed a Linux version of their store is not on the roadmap

This is the doings of Tencent (owns half of Epic Games), they want to get rid of steam and probably get it out completely of the Chinese market with the help of PRC's government.

it dont, that is why it was caught. (probably)

anyway, so... if those users are geting banned due to the netcode that means some of then were able to test the game at least offline?
i wonder if the game works already (at least offline)

Nobody was getting banned. It was an authentication error caused by a bug in Proton.
Then how come it also affected Windows?
Because the server was attempting to process invalid and corrupted data. This data is tied to the user's account. The affected accounts were fine after the server decided to purge the corrupted data, usually in a day or two.

Bans typically don't just automatically fix themselves.
A temporary banishment does. Either the server temp bans the user for sending corrupted data (could be an anti-spam feature) or the server accepts the corrupted data which then glitch any future login from that user.

If you could have the opportunity to port any title or titles, what would they be?

Oh man, I've got a whole list just off the top of my head:

  • Airmech

  • Beat Hazard

  • BioShock

  • Brainpipe

  • Critical Mass

  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution

  • Jedi Outcast

  • P.B. Winterbottom

  • Puzzle Dimension

  • RAGE

  • Rayman Origins

  • RUSH

  • SBCG4AP

  • Sonic CD (the new version that was released for PC, recently)

  • Sonic Adventure 1/2 (the remakes they've got for the PC, 2 is supposed to be out soon)

  • Sonic Generations

  • Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

  • Torchlight 2

And probably a whole lot more. I would say "every Retro Studios game ever" (and I actually did help out a bit with the Metroid Online Halo CE mod once or twice), but I tend to block the idea of Nintendo adopting a PC platform... I've often suggested that they do this and just make the peripherals PC devices, but that's in a bizarro-land where things I think should happen actually happen.

The description of the game on its steam store page is really bad; nothing is said about the plot, the characters, the environment/world, ...
