Yay, one more cool project using Godot :D

Amazon Lumberyard game engine is no longer going to support Linux, not enough demand

Quoting: mishugashuHow disappointing. Why do they expect the chicken to come before the egg? If everyone supported Linux, Linux would be a much larger target audience. I can't even imagine how many potential Linux gamers are playing on Windows because of the lack of support.
But there in lies the rub, we need a big time publisher with a big time triple a game to do a day one release on linux so there is no advantage to being on windows. I know there are big ish publishers supporting linux with some of their titles but landing something like COD/BF/Witcher 3 or no way linux companies like Bethesda or Rockstar launching games on linux, would love to see Red Dead 2 but i doubt its even coming to pc at this point.
This is purely hypothethical, unreal comment.. but just imagine RockStar decides to release Red Dead Redemption 2 on consoles and PC Linux only. How would the world react? Would there be unity among the PC windows players to switch over to Linux or rather cry, that rockstar newest engine iteration focuses on Linux instead of windows?
I can safely say that the second solution ("cry baby" ) will happen. People don't like to get the hand forced, even though they accept (but rant a bit about) this when it comes to console exclusivities.

Jonathan Blow's next game looks like it might support Linux

Yeah, well... Jonathan Blow may be a nice guy and all, making great games, I really disliked his aggressivity aginst Linux in general. He's a big voice in the indie game dev community, so what he says resounds a lot in many people's ears. I'm waiting for actions after that, not just "oh, I changed my mind". The Witness was a great occasion, he missed it. He's not the only one (hello 2dark) so I'm currently a bit fed up.

2Dark released without a Linux version despite promising it during crowdfunding

This is shameful.
I'm disgusted. I backed this project both because I'm a fan of Frédérick Raynal (Little Big Adventure/Relentless, Alone in the Dark, just to mention) AND because it was announced for Linux.

I feel this as a spit in the face, as the project page clearly announces a Linux version AND NO DRM. I indicated in the project comments that I wouldn't ask for a refund until I have more information about Linux release, but if this information is confirmed then I'll rethink my position just like they did.

Pizza Tycoon, another classic from my childhood is now available on GOG with Linux support

Not sure I'm happy with this news. I already own this lovely game on CD, and I used to get it from abandonware websites to have in playing in my DosBox.

Now, these downloads will eventually be unavailable since the game is now being sold again. In other terms, I'll have to either extract my old CD each time I want to play it, or buy it from GoG at a hard price (5.60€ is not so cheap for a dosbox archive with an unmodified game included).

Not so cool :(.

Presumably was the point of them calling it that.

The Linux editor for Unity is slated to officially launch with Unity 5.6 (updated: it wont)

While this is indeed pretty cool for Game Developers using Linux (and Linux gaming in general), my heart goes to FLOSS softwares. The best alternative I could find is Godot Engine [External Link], which is currently evolving at a VERY fast pace.

Rocket League is still coming to Linux, but there is no release date

Quoting: EagleDeltawe only have a few choices at this time:

1. Wait and get them after everyone else to show developers there is interest/money in Linux.
2. Refuse to get them if they take too long, which would ultimately hurt Linux gaming more as Publishers/Developers would assume that there is little to no interest/money in Linux-based gaming.
3. Give up on Linux Gaming altogether.
Are you seriously accepting the option to accept anything without considering the context? That is, you accept to pay for a game, a multiplayer game, more than 1 year after its first release (July 15th 2015 for the record)? This is exactly the same way to do that led the current industry to produce incomplete games at the same price just to sell DLCs.

If you accept it, good for you. I don't. I won't give my money away for games I won't play just to "show there is interest/money in Linux". I do accept to pay a higher price, but I won't accept to pay the same price for a product that is released 1 year later than other platforms' version. This is what I call defending Linux : not accepting Linux to be treated as a second class citizen. And of course, 3rd option is not an option.

Rocket League is still coming to Linux, but there is no release date

This is far too late. Rocket League is already an old game, Linux was one more time the fifth wheel. Players already started to move on to other games now. If editors and developers are interested in Linux as a gaming platform for their productions, they have to release them less than 6 months after Windows, if they can't ship them all at the same time.

It's a shame, it is already predictable that this game will not meet success on Linux and thus give arguments to anti-Linux.
