I don't know how I feel about that. I'm generally happy to welcome any gaming entertainment that can run in Linux as a Linux title, whether natively coded or wrapped in code that allows it to run. Anything that builds the ecosystem is fine with me.

For example, my kids are learning to type using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing's Amiga version on the FS-UAE emulator. This is the same program I learned on like 30 years ago. Is this a "Linux title?" No. But in discussing what runs on Linux for your enjoyment should the entirety of the Amiga library, DOS library, Dreamcast library, etc get a mention? Absolutely in my book...

I posted in the steam thread as well, though it is pretty well flooded with specs. I wonder if I could be of special help, since I have controllers... lots and lots of controllers. I could even test if an Atari Jaguar controller would work...

Either to brag, or they can't read, or only read enough for their brain to process "free key" and then don't read further. Which is why I really, really hope that whoever the dev chooses are actually interested in helping, not just playing.

I also think this is a clever way to do two things: 1) to gauge how strong the market is, basically how is the high specs Linux customer base looking right now (better than I thought myself, actually), and 2) Get some good marketing. How many more people went to their Steam site to post there who wouldn't have otherwise just reading the press release? I know I certainly did.

I think this looks fantastic, and there isn't much on Linux like it. I bet it'll do really well.

So, I was checking out some actual gameplay videos of this, and while who knows how it will hold together as a game, the artistic direction is outstanding. It absolutely nails things like weapons fire, explosions, ship design, and especially scaling (something that both Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen don't do well). Combat dynamics really do look like an updated FreeSpace 2 with modern gaming sensibilities. Looks fantastic.

I'm actually more optimistic for Linux gaming in the future than even today, as I think eventually gaming will largely be streaming, and as long as the streaming clients exist for Linux, then we'll be good. That way, if anything, we'll have an even bigger selection than we do today...

This genre (and thus the argument) is a wee foreign to me. By contrast, what would someone say is the last really good space real-time action-strategy RPG for Linux?
