Quoting: EikeI can't comment about LMDE, but installing and running steam and Nvidia drivers on Debian is some simple commands:
https://ein-eike.de/2016/08/28/how-to-install-steam-and-nvidia-drivers-on-debian-jessie/ [External Link]

AFAICS, the latest drivers from Nvidia [External Link] are 430.26, while the latest Nvidia drivers packaged by Debian [External Link] are 430.26. (Don't let yourself fool by the word "experimental". That's not more experimental than Arch, some PPA or whatever.)
I see. Guess I will try it again later. Thank you.

Quoting: GuestThe Nvidia driver that is in the non-free repos is two months old. If that's not good enough, i don't know what is. Your troubles with steam may have to do with you doing a "tricky" install and/or using nvidia - they are not the most linux-friendly company around. (Also, before crying wolf you should also check steam on something like gnome ore kde, on which it is probably tested, i don't think they test it on blackbox and the likes. They usually omit many dependencies that steam needs too)
The latest drivers I found for Debian is 390.48 [External Link]. Also, they are way harder to install than on LM. On LM I just add PPA and install them via driver manager, but on Debian I have to install everything manually and often it goes wrong.
After installing drivers I had a problem with Steam not launching because of some missing libraries (seems to be driver-related) and of course I had to manually install those too.
Then, after Steam finally launched I tried to start some games via Steam Play and they all didn't start for different reasons. I kinda gave up on that step because everything Wine-related is too complicated for me.

So, what I'm trying to say, there is probably a lot of work for Valve if they want support Debian as a main platform without giving users "DIY" headache.

Quoting: ThormackThe new Steam officially supported distro just launched.
Awesome.

(Just a speculation, for now...)
Lately I tried to switch from LM to LMDE and I switched back the next day, because pretty much nothing worked.
It was a pain in the ass to even launch Steam and none of the games worked.
Also, the latest Nvidia drivers are not available for Debian.
If you look at protondb reports, you will see that most of "platinum" and "gold" reports come from either Ubuntu, LM or Manjaro.
So I don't think that Valve will give up on Ubuntu that easily.
Especially with Canonical backtracking on their statements.

I don't expect anything good from this game knowing they have Allods Online game designer on board (Alexander Mishulin). Couple of classes were completely broken and useless, especially mage, and for more than TWO YEARS he did absolutely nothing about it. And then when he did, they turned out to be imbalanced, so he just cut them down making them useless again.
Srsly, **** that guy.

Does anyone have an issue with game executable missing? For some reason Steam is not downloading the game, but it downloads DLCs.

Can someone tell me how long it usually takes for this ppa to get an update?

Quoting: MblackwellThe framerates are only bad on Windows if you enable Contact Hardening Shadows (which is future-tech, and actually slightly broken), and/or MSAA which everyone should know tanks framerates.
Even without those settings game lags like hell. I mean, my PC can run Doom and Witcher 3 with decent graphics but DE:MD often shows less than 30 fps even on low settings. Especially in DLC location where it is raining outside.
If I have not bought this game earlier for windoz I would not buy it now. Its not only about performance, but also about uncompleted story and DLCs that are obviously taken out of the main game just to make more money.
Of course i would like to support more Linux ports but f**** square enix.

Quoting: elbuglioneuse Nvidia Card, and you will not have any problem.
Weeelll i actually do have nvidia card and latest proprietary drivers from nvidia ppa.
My problem with Dota 2 was not even about video card, it was about keyboard input.
Both of these problems was reported a long time ago and developers did nothing to fix them.

Good news, but it's not like there is lot of AAA titles among the list.
Another question is how well do this games run on Linux. I had problems with Dota 2 (game from the guys who promote Linux as gaming platform) and Middle Earth:SOM (which i bought only because of its Linux release), they both didn't work correctly without some launch options. Most of people wouldn't bother with settings and stuff.
Waiting for Deus Ex to come to Linux to check out it's performance.

Quoting: MadVillainYou could just install windoz as a second OS, you don't even need to activate it.
No, thanks. I'm not interested in that MS spyware.
I use it for games only and have no personal data on win drive whatsoever. Of course no one knows whats it's really capable of, but in todays world where even CPUs have backdoors you can't be sure about anything.
Also buying windoz-only game is pretty much supporting it as a game platform. But what choice do we really have? Waiting for 10 years for someone to make it work on Wine?
Maybe Vulkan will change things, but not very soon, I'm afraid.

Quoting: MadVillainThis game is made with DX11, so if their engine was not capable of supporting OpenGL at the moment of development (which I really doubt).
It supports PS4. So it has no problem with a very different API. This is about whether the effort of the people who need to do it is more effectively used elsewhere. In other words, money.
You are right, didn't think about it.
