Life is Strange 2 confirmed to be coming to Linux in 2019 from Feral Interactive

Finally, a sensible approach to announcing future porting plans by Feral. There are games that I am eager to play upon release, even if it means booting into Windows. However, if I knew the game was to be ported native to linux, I would delay my purchase so I can order it directly from the porting studio and let them keep all the money.

I find these "teasers" immature and childish. While they try to be cute, they may lose sales just because people have no idea a game they want is about to be ported.

As soon as they finalize the legal paperwork of acquiring the porting rights, just say so. Don't play guessing games.

Sorry for the rant.

I will now delay my Life is Strange 2 purchase so I can order it directly from Feral.

Hearts of Iron IV: Waking the Tiger gets a release date

Allow me to respond to all those who chose to attack the messenger and not address the issues raised in the message.

CK2 is a game released in 2012, slightly more than 5 years ago. The game costs 40€ on Steam at the moment. The game regularly receives DLC installments, the last two of which, Monks and Mystics and Jade Dragon go for 15€ a pop, the latter having been released on November 16, 2017, two months ago. You can purchase the entire CK2 collection for the paltry 268.82€. Now, does that sound like a no-longer supported game?

To the guy who helpfully suggested I play at 1080p and shut up: do you have a 4K monitor and have you tried playing the game at 1080p, full screen? I suppose you haven't or you would have soon discovered that the game switches my resolution to 1920x1080 but it does it the brain-dead way of two decades ago, where you get a huge 3840x2160 virtual desktop, of which only the lower left quadrant is displayed and the rest is black borders. If you move your mouse, the game goes off screen and you get a black screen. If you center the screen on the game, you can't click any of the buttons. If I manually switch my resolution to 1920x1080 before I start the game, I can play. But then if I alt-tab to my desktop, I have huge windows with huge icons on a 1920x1080 screen. Why did I then plop down $1000 for a 4K monitor?

It is my belief that Paradox doesn't care because there are numerous forum posts/discussions on steam and their own support page with people asking for scalable UI that date back at least to 2014. Since 2014 they have released so many DLCs, small and big, cheap and expensive, that any argument that this is EOL-ed product sold at bargain prices rings hollow. The developers spend time and money to modify the engine and add new features, yet don't address this problem.

So forgive me if I'm bitter, but I stand by my initial sentiment and words -- I will boycott Paradox until they show some respect and cease treating CK2 players as a cow to be milked for as long as possible.

EDIT: Forgot to say, that for a game that heavily depends on reading lots and lots and lots of text, this really breaks the game.

Hearts of Iron IV: Waking the Tiger gets a release date

I'm boycotting all Paradox developed and published games until they start fixing long-standing issues with their games. Case in point, the Crusader Kings II UI can't be scaled up to 4K. Anything bigger than 1080p gets too hard on the eyes. Paradox is well aware of the issue but they couldn't care less about it. Instead they are churning out DLCs and charging pretty penny.

I know, there are mods. But this is broken UI that must be addressed by the developer. Players should not be at the mercy of modders to fix what the developer is too lazy to have not allowed in the first place.

Feral Interactive are teasing another Linux port, so that's two titles not yet announced

I wish Feral would stop these teases and instead would plainly announce what games they've acquired the rights to port. The sooner, the better. In fact, if possible *before* the windows release date. This will make sure that linux gamers who want to play a particular game can hold off on the purchase until the game is released on linux. I have 4-5 games that I had no inkling would ever get a linux port and bought them on windows. Had I known, I would have waited and given Feral my money.

Feral, if you're reading this, please reconsider your PR strategy.

Quoting: GBee... does anyone else feel that the pixel art graphics trend has overstayed it's welcome?
Spot on! I've recently felt the same. Sure, it was cute initially, but it's gone too far too long, shamelessly exploiting the nostalgia factor. Pixelated graphics were the best graphics cards in the 90s could accomplish, but instead of pushing today's monster graphics cards to achieve some truly revolutionary look and feel, developers go for the low hanging fruit. I hope this fad goes away soonish...

What are you playing this weekend?

Don't hate on me fellas, but I've been spinning the tires in Spintires: Mudrunner for the last week or so under wine. Both Spintires and Spintires: Mudrunner work flawlessly under wine, including multiplayer. Terrific game. Pity it's not ported to Linux.

KING Art Games have a new Kickstarter for Shakes & Fidget, a comedy adventure game

I love King Art Games. Of course I backed them up.

Check this jewel from the FAQ:

Will it be a Free-To-Play game?
No.
It will be a normal game you can buy. You pay once and you can play it as often as you like, without paying again. You can sell your physical version, if you want to.
There will be no kind of in-game payments, loot boxes or DLCs in this game.

They get it. This is how a real game developer should treat their supporters/fans.

I once sent them an email, pledging my support for *all* of their games as long as they have a day 1 linux release. So, I just put my money where my mouth is.

Wine Staging 2.17 is out with more Direct3D11 features fixing issues in The Witcher 3, Overwatch and more
22 Sep 2017 at 4:32 pm UTC Likes: 1

I waited for this news story so I can chime in. I've been experimenting with Witcher 3 since staging 2.10.

2.17 still has the issue with the "black curtain texture (a solid black texture that separates the room into two)" inside the tower in the opening scene where Yennifer is brushing her hair. But other than that I haven't seen missing textures like I used to experience riding through White Orchard towards the inn. I will play some more when I get a chance, but I have a good feeling that the game, as it stands now, deserves something between a silver and gold rating.

Oh, I just remembered a glitch -- the entrance to the crypt with the first rune stone in the game has missing textures so you can see inside the cellar without entering.

So, I am very pumped about the progress wine staging has been making towards getting Witcher 3 into a playable shape.
