Doesn't source code need to be translated into machine code? I suppose it's possible to create a translator from any programming language to any platform, and a program's speed would be defined by that translator. I mean, old console games were written on the assembly language but now there are recompilation projects in C.

Anyway, someone must show LowRes NX to John Romero. Maybe he would get interested.

The "SDK" for LowRes NX is available on AUR while the core is not yet. You can use lowres-nx to load and play .nx files. I wonder why they decided to use BASIC-like style with bunch of GOTOs instead of something that Dijkstra would have approved.

Death Stranding. An addictive courier simulator in a very weird world. It runs at ~35 FPS on my PC and crashes sometimes, or even crashes the whole OS. Probably because WineD3D isn't as good as DVXK yet.

Ni no Kuni™ II: Revenant Kingdom. Kind of boring and repetitive. Characters' voices hurt my ears.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Exactly the same CoD4 but with better graphics. It's very unstable, crashes too much, and when a new level is loading for the first time, it takes up to 10 minutes for compiling shaders. But at least it perform at 120+ FPS with no hiccups or freezes, unlike CoD WWII. Don't buy it for the multiplayer mode though, because it's dead.

Castle In The Darkness. At first glance it looks like a generic 8-bit platformer with mediocre pixel art, but in fact it's a well-made game with good gameplay, humour and lots of secrets. It very cheap at this moment on the Steam sale. Warning: use Proton 3.16, and there's no controller support (so use AntiMicroX as well).

Astalon: Tears of the Earth (Windows-only, Unity). A platformer/metroidvania where you control three different characters what reminds of The Lost Vikings, but you can do that only at places looking like checkpoints. Except they are not, and when you die, you start at the very beginning of the game (maybe it's just for the demo), fortunately having kept all the progress. There are secrets, upgrades, unlocking shortcuts, and other stuff. It's 8-bit pixel art, but this time it's 8-bit done right, not generic low-res MS Paint daub. The game feels great, added to my wishlist. No issues with performance, controller support or glitches.

One more couple of demos:

Lovecraft Tales (Windows-only, Unity). A 2D platformer that reminds me of Limbo. Nice art style, but clumsy controls and too much cheap tricks for killing an unaware player. The game doesn't explain how to play, you have to learn it by yourselves e.g. that you can use a flashlight, control it with a right stick, and some things react to the light. It's glitchy also. The controls cannot be changed in-game, only in the main menu. There are screens where it's probably supposed to be a story or some help info, but it's just a blank screen - probably a Proton issue. Nevertheless I liked this game, but it seems to be kind of abandoned with no updates since 2018. So I wouldn't expect it to be released this year.

Tasomachi: Behind the Twilight (Windows-only, UE4). A 3D platformer where you jump a lot and collect lanterns to progress and coins for no visible reason. Nothing special. It looks more like a concept, not a ready game for having no story or introduction, and even its menu looks dummy. And there are bugs too. I fell through a platform once. It seems the demo is time-restricted (it shows no timer, of course), and it ended after I had spent about 15 minutes in it. It launches in Chinese, click the third line in the main menu to be able to select English.

Quoting: dubigrasuI would like to give a shout to the old-school looking Graven: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1371690/GRAVEN/

It needs Proton Experimental or Proton GloriousEggroll, but is quite something, although the demo unfortunately has performance issues (even on Windows). They said the issues are solved for the main game though.
I tried it on the previous demo event. It is good indeed, but I got lost quickly having no mana and no clue where to go. I remember I fixed its bad performance but don't remember how. Probably by switching the game's renderer.
