Quoting: LoftyAs I said in my previous message, go to wallpaper settings and look for installing new plugins, there's a shader one for animated backgrounds.Quoting: Purple Library GuyI don't actually want any of this stuff for my own personal desktop, but I agree it would be cool if we had it.If Linux had an app that was fully/partially integrated say into Gnome / KDE. Then spanning ultrawide / multimonitor would be easier and probably better than what is available on Wallpaper Engine. Perhaps even there could be some super low impact pixel art animation variants based on tile regions so only small parts of the desktop are animated and such the CPU usage would be <1%
Also the Gnome workspace overview with blurred / animated background would look sick.
I do not want this in 4k on my SteamOS3.0 desktop, i don't want it to look like a modern tricked out desktop. Ooohh wait, yes i do

Quoting: LoftyI just want animated/interactive desktops on Gnome/KDE. Like Wallpaper-engine ( https://store.steampowered.com/app/431960/Wallpaper_Engine/ [External Link] ) but native to Linux rather than having to run steam in the background and with extra features like night/day transitions (other than the simple one currently offered which isnt really a transition, but more of a wallpaper switch). If you think your computer is running too cool, you could go to the wallpaper settings in kde and install a plugin to run shaders.
Sure there are goofy workarounds or scripts but to actually have a WPE like application that is integrated better into the DE & even interactive (like a built in conky) would be nice, with a Variety like app indicator to quickly access settings, change or pause etc.
It's weird that this doesn't commonly exist on Linux given that Linux distros have forever been all about creating that custom aesthetic. From 3D cube desktops, to firework cursors and wobbly things. Weirdly Windows itself now seems to feature more of the kind of theming/animation elements id expect out of the box on most distros that seems to be missing (excluding the likes of Deepin and other customized community KDE distros)

Quoting: slaapliedjeyou don't need to run kate as sudo, you just do "kate path/to/file" and when you save it'll ask for the password, I think this was done to prevent any buggy code to be potentially used for privilege escalation.Quoting: GuestI wouldn't think so. But I ran into the 'no kate as sudo' issue yesterday as I was trying to edit the mirrorlist on garuda linux as the installer kept messing up something. Vim wasn't installed, Nano wasn't installed... tried kate, but it wouldn't let me open it with sudo... talk about annoying.Quoting: scaine2. Dolphin and Kate can't be run as sudo. I get the reasons why they did this, but absolutely screw any DE or app which takes the law into its own hands.Out of curiosity, is it allowed at least under Wayland?
Finally managed to get something working.
AMD make switching between Vulkan drivers AMDVLK and RADV easier

Quoting: strycoreThis is a vendor specific implementation of something that already exists and is not vendor specific. We have supported switching vulkan drivers with the VK_ICD_FILENAMES environment variable for months in Lutris so I don't really see what the big improvement is here.that's true, but it's easier to remember than /usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.x86_64.json

Wine 3.4 released with more Vulkan support

Quoting: ShmerlBecause supported version is still better than unsupported one. That's self explanatory.I don't think you got what he said. If the linux users already bought it because it ran well in wine then the developer won't see any extra money from them by going through the effort of porting as they already bought the game.

ok, guys, don't take this the wrong way but most suggestions here are pretty ridiculous. I know we all might have one or a couple of AAA games in our wishlist, but let's think things over, this is a guy earning 750$ a month that won't see a nickle from sales, undertaking a titanic project that'd normally have a team dedicated to it (and still might have some problems at the end), we are virtually talking about slavery, this beside the fact that AAA games have the resources to pay someone to port their games, you can't just fix a lack of will.
It's clear this is meant for AA and indie games(preferably already fully released with no updates piped), one good suggestion I saw here was hat in time as (according to said poster)they were already trying to make the linux port and were having trouble with it.

I wouldn't support this game, and not because it is a wine port. These publishers seem shady for saying the least https://steamcommunity.com/app/215450/discussions/0/350540973991623520 [External Link]
